Car crashes remain one of the leading causes of death for children ages one to 13, but many of those tragedies are preventable with proper car seat use.
In honor of Child Passenger Safety Week (September 21–27), here are a few safety tips every parent and caregiver should keep in mind:
✅ Choose the right seat. Match the car seat to your child’s age, height, and weight. Use the NHTSA’s car seat finder if you’re unsure.
✅ Install it correctly. The seat should move no more than an inch at the base. Use either the seat belt or LATCH system, never both.
✅ Secure the straps. Straps should be snug with no twists, and the chest clip should be at armpit level.
✅ Don’t rush the transition. Each stage offers a different level of protection. Keep your child in their current seat as long as they meet the guidelines.
It’s always a good idea to get your installation checked by a certified technician — it’s often free and could save a life.
Stay safe on the road this September and every month. And as always, reach out with any legal questions or needs.
