This National Pro Bono Week, we're celebrating the power of pro bono service and the extraordinary individuals and families we are privileged to serve.

For the fifth time, Nelson Mullins volunteers joined Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. and Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta (JF&CS Atlanta) for a Power of Attorney Clinic serving Holocaust survivors, many now in their 90s. Together, attorneys, staff, interpreters, and witnesses helped survivors put plans in place to protect their wishes, care for their families, and preserve for future generations the legacies forged through remarkable resilience.

We are grateful to Atlanta Legal Aid and JF&CS for their partnership and steadfast commitment to the survivor community, and to the many volunteers whose generosity and dedication made this meaningful day possible.

Business disputes often take shape long before a transaction closes.

On October 21, Nelson Mullins partner Harsh Arora will explore how deal structures, governance provisions, and diligence strategies can help businesses anticipate conflicts and mitigate risk during his keynote presentation, “What Every Deal Teaches About the Next Dispute,” at The American GC Summit in New York City.

Hosted by Law Ninjas 🥷 and supported by Nelson Mullins, the summit brings together general counsel, in-house legal professionals, and industry leaders to discuss key issues shaping the legal industry.

In-house counsel and general counsel interested in attending may contact Harsh directly. Learn more: https://www.nelsonmullins.com/insights/events/the-american-gc-summit

Congratulations to Nelson Mullins Miami associate Nicholas “Nico” Bastidas, who has been named Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s 2026 Attorney of the Year. The award is presented annually to an attorney who goes above and beyond in support of LASBC and those it serves.

The recognition reflects Nico’s commitment to serving his community through pro bono work. Since joining LASBC’s volunteer panel in 2025, he has assisted more than 80 clients through its Pro Bono Advice and Counsel Hotline, including more than 40 this year alone. He has also consistently stepped up to provide volunteer support whenever LASBC has needed assistance on short notice.

Nico will be honored at LASBC’s A Night for Justice Gala on October 29. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Peter Schoemann, a partner in our Orlando office, serves on the board of PALS -Providing Autism Links & Support, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting individuals with autism and their families throughout Central Florida.

Through its Art & Autism exhibitions, PALS and UCF CARD - Center for Autism and Related Disabilities provide artists with autism an opportunity to share their creativity, perspectives, and artistic
voices with the broader community.

For Pete, this work is deeply personal. Both of his sons are autistic, and he has had the privilege of watching them develop their own interests, talents, and paths in life. His son, Kenneth Eckstein-Schoemann, is a visual artist whose paintings have been included in the Art & Autism exhibitions.

We are proud to support PALS and UCF CARD and to help share
the stories behind this important celebration of creativity and inclusion.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, Nelson Mullins and the Engagement and Opportunity Committee recognize the generations of Hispanic and Latino individuals whose cultures, contributions, and achievements have helped shape our communities and the legal profession.

We celebrate their lasting impact and the perspectives, traditions, and experiences that continue to enrich our firm, our profession, and the communities we serve.

Twenty-five years ago, in the aftermath of September 11, Nelson Mullins lawyers and staff came together to ask a simple question: How could the firm make a difference?

Inspired by a call from World Trade Center survivor and Port Authority police officer to serve their own communities, the firm reached out to the City of Columbia Fire Department in South Carolina. In conversations with firefighters, Nelson Mullins learned that almost none had wills in place. Wills for Heroes was born that day.

What began as a local pro bono effort grew into Nelson Mullins' nationwide Wills for Heroes program. Just months after its launch, the initiative was presented at the White House and with the support of the American Bar Association, it sparked a national effort to provide pro bono estate planning assistance to first responders.

Over the past 25 years, Nelson Mullins volunteers have prepared thousands of wills and healthcare directives for first responders, veterans, and other frontline workers.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember those we lost, honor those who continue to serve, and reflect on the power of pro bono service.
