Today we commemorate the Battle of the Greasy Grass, fought on June 25, 1876, when Lakota, Dakota, Northern Cheyenne, Arapaho and other Native Nation's warriors united to defend their homelands, families, and way of life against U.S. military expansion.

This battle stands as a powerful reminder of Indigenous resistance, resilience, and the enduring fight for sovereignty. The victory at Little Bighorn reflected the determination of Native Nations to protect their treaty rights, cultures, and self-determination in the face of immense pressure and displacement.

As we remember those who fought and sacrificed, we also honor the generations of Indigenous peoples who continue to preserve their traditions, strengthen their communities, and advocate for their inherent rights as sovereign Nations.

The story of Little Bighorn is not only about a battle—it is about survival, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and Indigenous sovereignty.
