On International Women’s Day, we recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in every sphere of life.

Society often expects women to raise children as though they do not have to work, and to work as though they do not have to raise children.

This reality reflects the immense responsibility many women carry each day—balancing professional commitments, family life, and community leadership.

Today serves as a reminder to celebrate the progress made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and commit to building a future where women are supported, valued, and empowered in every role they choose.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

Let’s talk UNCONTESTED divorces and why I will always recommend that one spouse, if not both, hire an attorney.

Even when both spouses agree that it’s time to part ways, an uncontested divorce is still a major legal event. It’s easy to assume that if there’s no fighting, no court battles, and no drawn-out disputes, the process is simple.

While uncontested divorces are generally faster and less expensive than contested ones, they still involve legally binding agreements that can impact your finances, property rights, parenting arrangements, and future stability.

Here’s why even uncontested divorces deserve careful attention — and why working with a lawyer is strongly recommended.

1. An Uncontested Divorce Is Still a Legal Contract

When you finalize a divorce, you’re entering into a legally enforceable agreement and binding court orders. If something is overlooked, vague, or improperly written, fixing it later can be costly — and sometimes impossible without returning to court.

2. Small Mistakes Can Have Long-Term Consequences

Even in amicable situations, important details are often missed:
Retirement accounts not properly divided
Tax consequences not addressed
Debt responsibility left unclear
Parenting plans lacking specific terms
Spousal support language that creates unintended obligations
What feels fair today can become complicated tomorrow.

3. Emotions Can Cloud Practical Decision

Even when couples agree to separate peacefully, divorce is emotional. People often rush to “just get it over with” and may agree to terms without fully understanding the implications.
An attorney provides objective guidance. They’re not there to escalate conflict — they’re there to ensure fairness, clarity, and informed decision-making.

4. Court Requirements Must Be Met Precisely

Each state has specific filing procedures, mandatory disclosures, waiting periods, and formatting rules. Missing paperwork or incorrectly filed documents can delay the process or even invalidate parts of your agreement.

5. Protecting Your Future Is Worth the Investment

Uncontested does not mean unimportant. This agreement affects:
Your financial future
Your parental rights
Your credit
Your retirement
Your tax situation

And keep in mind- Hiring an attorney for an uncontested divorce is often far less expensive than hiring one later to fix problems. It’s a proactive investment in your peace of mind.

This morning, Michelle Reynolds with the Growing Oaks Association led the first-ever Elevation Station session for male inmates at the Cleveland County Detention Center. Seven men voluntarily participated in Class 1: Goal Setting, marking an important milestone in expanding this program.

The session began with introductions and honest discussion about reentry goals. Several participants shared that they have never had a bank account, never rented or purchased a home, or experienced foreclosure without fully understanding why it happened or how to rebuild. The class focused on practical financial fundamentals while also addressing the deeper work of personal responsibility and change.

Elevation Station blends financial planning, life skills, and a faith-based component, emphasizing stewardship, accountability, and long-term decision-making. During the class, participants watched a video using the image of an acorn growing into a mighty oak to illustrate that transformation takes time, the right environment, and intentional growth—financially, personally, and spiritually.

Later in the day, the same voluntary Elevation Station curriculum was offered to female inmates, ensuring equal access to the program.

Elevation Station will continue weekly:
• Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. for male inmates
• Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. for female inmates

This partnership with the Growing Oaks Association reflects a shared commitment to rehabilitation, education, and second chances—and we’re grateful for the continued investment in helping individuals build a stronger foundation for life after incarceration.
