An eviction doesn't just cost a family their home. It can cost a kid their school year.

Oklahoma Watch and The 74 looked at what happens to Tulsa students when their families get an eviction notice: missed days, mid-year moves, and falling behind. Last school year, evictions were filed affecting more than 600 children in Tulsa Public Schools alone.

Oklahoma's timeline moves fast. Renters have five days to pay or move, and court comes just three days after a summons arrives. That's not much time, but it is enough time to get help.

If you've received a notice, call before your court date, not after. Free legal help may be available.
