Defamation occurs when a person makes a false statement about another person, that statement is published, or transmitted, and heard by another person, and the false statement damages injures the subject person's reputation.
Generally, defamation cases were limited to statements that were published by a newspaper, or radio, or television station. Additionally, that was about the only way that a single statement could get published to a large number of people
But with the advent of the internet, statements made on social media can reach billions of people. Social media gives the ordinary person a platform to make all sorts of statements about another, and those statements can reach a multitude of people. Accordingly, there have been a growing number of defamation suits, not against large media corporations, but against individuals, to remove the false statements that were made, to retract those statements, and to remove such damaging posts.
We have successfully litigated both situations. If someone has made a false statement against you, and it is impacting your life, give us a call, we would be glad to work for you to set the record straight.
