In a jury trial, closing arguments are critically important because they serve as the final, persuasive takeaway that summarizes evidence, restates the theory of the case, and leaves a lasting impression with the jurors. Takura was one of the faculty members for the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission’s most recent training on closing arguments. As a teenager, C&N’s client was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Due to changes in the law regarding juvenile lifer laws that allow a potential for resentencing, Takura ultimately achieved a sentence that will allow our client to soon be released and get a second chance at life. Takura focused on our client’s significant rehabilitation and other mitigating factors to show that he will be a productive community member when released.
