The woman who owned this home spent her entire life helping others. She gave her time, her resources and her love to the most vulnerable in our community.
We had been planning on selling her home for months. But changes to her health meant she needed much more help than was available. While she had amazing friends and neighbors who helped her get situated in a new retirement home, getting her belongings organized and moved out, and her house ready to sell landed on me.
I spent months doing the backbreaking work of getting her home organized. She had lived in the home longer than I’ve been alive. And with no family in Utah it fell to me to do it all. Decades of belongings to sort through, priceless memories to send to extended family out of state. Decisions to coordinate on what to sell and what to donate. All details I had to handle with the utmost care.
Due to circumstances, we were unable to list the house on the MLS. Which meant I had to list the home privately. I reached out personally to my network, and to agents I know that work her market. She was in a very vulnerable position, and I needed to ensure everything was handled properly to get her the best possible outcome.
The result? We ended up getting two offers above list price, from two amazing agents. Both of these agents knew the position my client was in. Both of them could have taken advantage of that. Instead both agents acted with absolute respect, ethics and honesty. As did their buyers.
I’ve been thinking about karma a lot with this sale. After spending a lifetime giving to others, she had so many people show up with that same amount of love given to her in return.
To her friends and neighbors, thank you for the help you always gave and continue to give her. To both agents who presented offers, thank you for treating her with the care and respect she deserved.
In so many ways, this was one of the hardest sales I have ever handled. Thank you to everyone who trusted and helped me along the way.
