Practice Traffic Stops

TWO SESSIONS:
Tuesday, January 12th AND Thursday, January 14th, 2021
10:00 am to 12:00 noon

The Arc of Northern Virginia has partnered with Fairfax County Police, FCPS School Board Member Rachna Sizemore Heizer, and Supervisor Rodney Lusk to create a new event to help people with disabilities interact with police officers, and vice-versa.

Practice Traffic Stops provides a non-confrontational opportunity to learn how best to behave if pulled over by a police officer. The experience is also a way for officers to gain awareness of and better understand a driver who may have a developmental disability.

People learning to drive and licensed drivers are welcome. Participants will need to bring a vehicle. The driver may bring a support person, but everyone will stay in their cars and wear a mask at all times. The practice traffic stop will be with a real police officer in a controlled environment.
