Unrelated to LA but I’m a business owner and have a tiny commercial property in downtown Oakland. I love it but post pandemic property crime got out of control. Our mayor and DA were pretty useless. Oakland Police Dept did what tbey could but had little political back up. To his credit, Gavin sent in state law enforcement including the California Highway Patrol and offered prosecutors help in court. The presence of CHP made a significant difference. I don’t know the statistics but downtown Oakland is not the hot mess it was. I really really do not want ICE, or the national guard in Oakland because it will make things worse. We kind of like our undocumented immigrants because they take care of us. Great respect for Marine Corp too but u have more important things to do. Semper Fi. But thanks Gavin. And LA be safe.

The goal should be to ensure the independence of the judiciary. Republicans forcing a vote with Democrats responding by packing the court will make that very difficult. Joe Biden and the gang of 8 should agree to wait until after the election and the winner will then nominate the next justice. In exchange, the # of Senators required to pass a nominee through will return to 60 where it belongs.

As we know, its been an interesting month. Tens of thousands of understandably angry but peaceful protestors walked by the building. Some lit a dumpster on fire that illuminated "The Firefighter" mural. The City quickly helped clean up. Construction on a new sidewalk with a block long planter was completed and opened. The area in front of the office looks wonderful We are slowly but surely transitioning from stay at home back to the office. I pray that Uptown can return to the vibrancy it had before the pandemic and I would love to see all our neighbors back.
