These photos are from 1991. With David E. Hoy. Did you know I worked as my dad's legal secretary when I was 19 years old during the summer I was attending college? This photo proves it. The original Law Offices of Hoy & Sahlas, LLC was first called the Law offices of David Hoy. We were located in the Shaker building in downtown Oak Park from 1991 until 2008 when we moved to the Oak Brook Mall. My mom, Lynette Darling Hoy was using the office for her counseling practice at that time.

Happy Independence Day! So grateful to be able to see the 250th birthday of our nation! We have enjoyed freedom because our country was founded on a cree (The declaration of Independence), Judeo-Christian values and in God. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness . . . ."

In honor of Father's Day last Sunday, I'm thankful for my loving father, David E. Hoy, who passed away 6 months ago. He spent his first Father's Day in heaven. He was my law partner for 26 years and my mentor in the law and life. He founded our law firm in 1985. I'm pictured here with my parents at my law school graduation from May, 2000. He is forever cherished and forever loved.

Do You Need to Update Your Estate Plan?
Life changes such as a death or birth in your family, a divorce, changes in assets and total net worth, or other significant life events should be addressed in your estate plan update consultation.
If your estate plan is older than 2022, you should consider updating your plan. Retirement laws under the SECURE act 2.0 changed in 2022. This means you should ensure that the necessary retirement account IRS "see through trust" language for a conduit or accumulation trust is in your Trust agreement if your trust is named as a beneficiary of qualified accounts. In 2025, the Power of Attorney for Property law changed in addition to the Small Estate Act in Illinois.
