Approximately 8,200 Michiganders who recently applied for or renewed an enhanced driver’s license or state ID received a misprinted card in the mail this week. The misprints are the result of an error by our vendor Idemia. The error affected a batch of licenses and IDs printed on Aug. 26, 2026.

The misprinted licenses/IDs have a stock photo and date of birth printed in the lower right-hand corner instead of the cardholder’s information. The misprinted information is generic and is not the information of another resident.

We have already sent new, corrected cards to everyone who received a misprinted license or ID. People who got a misprinted license don’t have to take any action at this time because they will automatically get a new card in the mail. Affected customers can also go online or visit a Secretary of State branch office in person to print a temporary license/ID to use while they wait for a new card. If your old license or ID hasn’t expired yet, it’s still valid for travel.
