The 2027 COLA increase is now official. The 3.6% raise for 2027 is up from 2.8% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2025, following a string of raises as high as 8.7% in 2023.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs disability and survivor payments, along with military retirement checks, go up each year by the same amount as the COLA to account for the rate of inflation.

✈️ On October 14th, 1947, Air Force test pilot and World War II fighter ace Chuck Yeager became the first person to officially break the sound barrier while flying the Bell X-1.

Breaking the sound barrier was more than a technical achievement — it was a moment that changed the future of flight. Nearly 80 years later, Chuck Yeager's historic flight is still one of aviation's most unforgettable accomplishments.

The blast took all four of his limbs. It never took his determination.

On October 23rd, Staff Sgt. Travis Mills will be inducted into the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor as part of its Class of 2026.

In 2012, Travis Mills was critically wounded during a patrol in Afghanistan and became one of the few service members to survive the loss of portions of all four limbs in combat. The road back was anything but easy, but his perseverance and outlook on life have inspired veterans, families, and communities across the country.

Our friends at Home of Heroes have helped ensure Travis Mills' story is remembered and shared with future generations. As his induction approaches, we encourage you to learn more about a veteran whose example reminds us what's possible in the face of extraordinary adversity.

Eighty-five American lives were spared because one soldier refused to leave his post.

That extraordinary act of courage is just one reason Terry P. Richardson will be inducted into the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor on October 23rd as part of its Class of 2026.

During the Battle of Hill 222 in Vietnam, Richardson repeatedly risked his life for the men around him. After rescuing wounded soldiers under heavy enemy fire, he moved forward of American positions to direct airstrikes against a significantly larger North Vietnamese force. Wounded by a sniper but unwilling to abandon the mission, he continued coordinating air support for hours, helping save the lives of 85 American soldiers. His actions ultimately earned him the Medal of Honor.

Our friends at Home of Heroes have preserved Terry Richardson's remarkable story and legacy. As his induction approaches, we encourage you to learn more about a Michigan veteran whose courage and leadership exemplify the very best of military service.
