Healthy aging isn’t just genetics.

Wednesday Business Spotlight: Linda Longden with Choices For Better Health

Linda has been with Shaklee for 22 years, and if you talk to her for long, you’ll figure out quickly that she’s passionate about nutrition and helping people live healthier lives.

Linda believes in getting back to the basics, understanding what you’re putting into your body, and making better choices where you can.

She also has a lot to say about what you’re using around the house. Apparently, clean doesn’t have a smell, and I’m pretty sure she’d be happy if none of us ever bought bleach again.

If you have questions about nutrition, supplements, healthy aging, or Shaklee in general, Linda is the person to talk to.

Shaklee. It works, it’s green, and it’s guaranteed.

Being married doesn't mean your spouse automatically has unlimited authority to handle everything in your name.

A Power of Attorney lets you choose who can act for you, what they can do, and sometimes what they can't do. That matters when a bank, title company, or financial institution wants actual legal authority instead of a marriage certificate.

Backups matter too. If your spouse is the person you planned to act and something happens to both of you, your children don't automatically become replacement agents just because they're your children.

The time to find out your plan has a hole in it isn't while someone is standing at a bank counter being told no.

Give me a call and we'll make sure the right people have the right authority before your family needs it.

Wednesday Business Spotlight: The Bird House, llc

The Bird House isn’t just a place to buy birdseed; stop in, look around, and find a place of enchantment in North Muskegon.

Cathy (and Rob) took the love of feeding wild birds and turned it into The Bird House. Today, they have birdseed, feeders, birdhouses and birdbaths, but they also carry pet food and supplies, garden art, books, binoculars, wind chimes, and a myriad of other items worth wandering around the store to see.

What I especially like is their approach to customer service. This is the kind of local business that takes care of the people who walk through the door.

If you haven't been in before, check out their page and then stop by sometime. You may go in looking for something for the birds and come out with something for yourself.

People always ask me, "Do I need a will?"

As most attorneys will say when you ask them virtually anything. It depends.

If you want everything to just go to your children, then probably not. If you have different beneficiaries, like charities or friends, then probably. Or if your children don't get along. definitely yes.

If you have questions, let's talk.

“The kids know what I want.”

That isn't an estate plan. That's an emergency waiting to happen.

Put it in writing before your family has to figure it out the hard way.

Wednesday Business Spotlight: Mark Patterson - Re/Max West

Mark’s motto is “Service is where it’s at,” and he means it.

Mark is a full-time Realtor who can help buyers and sellers anywhere in Michigan, with his primary focus from Muskegon to Manistee. When you call Mark, you get Mark. He gives his clients his cell phone number and makes himself available as a real estate resource, whether you’re ready to buy today or just have questions.

Recently, Mark helped a homeless man purchase a home after others had turned him away. Mark stuck with him, worked through the obstacles, and helped him get to closing.

That tells you a lot more about Mark than any sales pitch could.

So, if you’re thinking about buying or selling, or just want to know what’s really happening in the local real estate market, give Mark Patterson a call.

And as Mark likes to say: He’ll help you buy a house with a click of a mouse.

A Will doesn’t automatically become invalid just because it’s old.

But if yours has been sitting in a drawer for 10, 15, or 20 years, it’s probably worth taking a look at it.

Your family may have changed. The people you named to handle things may no longer be the people you would choose today. You may want your assets divided differently.

You may not need a new estate plan at all, but you should make sure the one you have still does what you want it to do.

If it’s been a while, give me a call and I can review it with you.

I’m going to try something a little different around here.

Estate planning can get pretty serious, so I’m reserving Fridays for something a little less serious.

Memes, bad jokes, questionable humor, and whatever else that helps make thinking about death and incapacity slightly more entertaining.

So, welcome to Friday at Greve Law.
