This question is often answered incorrectly on driver's tests so we thought we should clarify.

The correct answer is B. A large number of applicants answer that a driver should turn the wheel in the opposite direction of the skid. Actually, you need to turn it in the direction you want your vehicle to go in order to maintain control over your car.

Did you get it right?

In April, Congressional Democrats introduced legislation to expand the Supreme Court from 9 to 13 justices. The size of the Supreme Court, which has fluctuated since it was established in 1789, has remained at nine since 1869.

The Supreme Court can, in fact, be expanded by an act of Congress. President Biden also announced the formation of a commission of liberals and conservatives to study the structure of the Supreme Court, including the number of justices and the length of their service.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Justice Stephen Breyer, both voiced skepticism about expanding the court over the last few years and yet the topic remains incredibly controversial. This will be an interesting study that the country will follow closely.

What do you think? Should the Supreme Court be restructured?

As businesses, universities, and other organizations attempt to return to normal operations, coronavirus-vaccine mandates have become the subject of intense debate. And just as schools and private employers can require vaccines for the measles, flu, and other diseases, it appears they can require coronavirus vaccines even before those vaccines have full approval, according to data compiled by Holly Fernandez Lynch and Govind Persad of the Washington Post. It is important to note, that while an entity can mandate the vaccine, people will still have the choice to not get it if they wish - but they may be barred from certain places as a result.

Mandates are popping up here and there but have yet to sweep the country by storm. And many states, organizations, and individuals and pushing back against mandates, using the legal system to fight them, of which many cases have yet to be decided.

So despite the fact that it appears they can, many institutions are taking a cautious approach to mandates as they continue to receive pushback in the legal system. The University of California system, for instance, says it will delay mandates until coronavirus vaccines gain the full approval of the Food and Drug Administration.

The country is definitely eager to get back to some state of normalcy and put the coronavirus and its lockdowns behind us. It will be interesting to watch as the mandate debate evolves.

Attention lawyers and aspiring lawyers! Were you aware that the California Supreme Court has reversed course and permitted a provisional licensure program that will create a path for bar exam applicants who would have passed the test under the state's newly lowered pass score to practice in California? This is a very interesting development with far-reaching consequences.

For our fellow attorneys out there, are we in favor of this change or will this negatively impact our profession?

Across the nation, 19 school-aged children on average are killed getting on or off the school bus each year, according to a report by Stanford Children's Health. With covid regulations continuing to change and more and more kids headed back to school, it's important to know when you, as a driver, need to stop for a school bus and when it's legal for you to keep driving.

In California, the fine for passing a school bus can be up to $600, according to the California Highway Patrol. Bus drivers are able to file reports against drivers who pass the school bus within 24 hours of the incident. So let's dig into the rules.

According to California law, drivers must stop when a school bus stops in front of them and extends its stop sign with flashing lights.
πŸ›‘ When on a two-lane road without a median, traffic on both sides of the road must stop.
πŸ›‘ When on a two-lane road with a center turn lane, traffic on both sides of the road must stop. Cars can pass the school bus after the stop sign is no longer out, the school bus has begun driving, or the bus driver signals you can pass.
πŸ›‘ When there are four lanes, the side of traffic without a stopped school bus can continue driving, preferably cautiously.
πŸ›‘ When there is a raised divider, like a median in between the different directions of traffic, the side of the road without a stopped school bus can continue driving, preferably cautiously. Cars on a two-lane road with a median also do not have to stop if the bus is stopped on the other side of the road.

California schools are slowly starting to reopen so be careful and watch for children, especially around school buses.

Were you aware that we have a new Attorney General? In January 2021, Garland was nominated for the position of Attorney General by President Joe Biden. He was confirmed by the Senate in a 70–30 vote on March 10, 2021, and was sworn in the next day.

The Judiciary Act of 1789 created the Office of the Attorney General which evolved over the years into the head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government. The Attorney General represents the United States in legal matters generally and gives advice and opinions to the President and to the heads of the executive departments of the Government when so requested. In matters of exceptional gravity or importance, the Attorney General appears in person before the Supreme Court. Since the 1870 Act that established the Department of Justice as an executive department of the government of the United States, the Attorney General has guided the world's largest law office and the central agency for enforcement of federal laws.

Do you think Mr. Garland was a good pick to head up the DOJ?

Parking on a hill is difficult in and of itself. But once your car is in park, what else do you need to do as an additional safety precaution? Save this post so you know in the future and prevent your car from causing an accident or property damage.

If you're facing uphill: When headed uphill at a curb, turn the front wheels away from the curb and let your vehicle roll backward slowly until the rear part of the front wheel rests against the curb using it as a block.

If you're facing downhill: When you stop your car headed downhill, turn your front wheels toward the curb. Let your vehicle roll slowly until the front tire rests against the curb using it as a block.

When headed uphill (or downhill) with no curb, always turn your front wheels to the right so that if your vehicle moves, it will roll off the street, not into traffic.

Remember, always set your parking brake and leave the vehicle in gear or in the β€œpark” position.

Lane Control - Part I

Lane Control - PART I

If you've driven in California you know there are a lot of drivers who aren't aware of these rules so share this post with as many people as you can!

First, let's talk line colors:
🚦 Solid yellow lines mark the center of a road used for two-way traffic.
🚦 Broken yellow lines indicate that you may pass if the broken line is next to your driving lane.
🚦 Two solid yellow lines indicate no passing. Never drive to the left of these lines unless you are: (1) In a carpool lane/high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane that has a designated entrance on the left. (2) Instructed by construction or other signs to drive on the other side of the road because your side of the road is closed or blocked. (3) Turning left across a single set of double yellow lines to enter or exit a driveway or private road, or make a U-turn.
🚦 Two sets of solid double yellow lines spaced 2 feet or more apart are considered a barrier. Do not drive on or over this barrier, make a left turn, or a U-turn across it, except at designated openings.
🚦 Solid white lines mark traffic lanes going in the same direction, such as one-way streets.
🚦 Broken white lines separate traffic lanes on roads with two or more lanes in the same direction.
🚦 Double white lines are two solid white lines that indicate a lane barrier between a regular use and a preferential use lane, such as a carpool/HOV. Never change lanes while in these lanes; wait until a single broken white line appears. You may also see these parallel lines in or near freeway on and off-ramps.
