On April 20th at the PSATS Annual Conference Firm attorneys Sean Kilkenny, John Walko, Deanna Williams, and Dave Sander presented before a packed room a Continuing Legal Education “CLE” course on public meetings. This session explored actionable strategies and legal frameworks to effectively manage public participation and maintain disciplined conduct among elected officials during and before public meetings. The presentation addressed the core challenge of balancing the public’s right to speak with the municipality’s need for efficient, civil, relevant, and legally safe governance. The CLE addressed the need for constitutional public comment policies, the consideration of internal policies related to the governing body’s decorum, and how such policies should be implemented to avoid legal challenges.
