Federal funding cuts have put ๐ญ๐ฏ๐ฌ ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป at risk of losing the trusted legal support they need most.

For years, the process moved slowlyโfewer than 10 children were called in for interviews over the last five years.
Now, cases are moving fast: ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต ๐ฎ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ, with more expected in October. Each one needs preparation, coordination, travel to Chicago, and the right interpreter.
โFinding an interpreter is not just finding a person who can be present and speak the language, but it is also finding somebody who speaks the right dialect, who can have rapport with the client, and who has legal language skills. It is about preserving the dignity of the client through the whole process. They deserve to be comfortable with the person they are telling their story to during one of the most uncomfortable conversations." โ Gabriela Arribas, Translation and Interpretation Coordinator
We promised to stand beside these children. With more urgent cases and more families counting on us, ๐๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ป๐ผ๐.
