Last Friday, February 7th, 2025, I was publicly sworn in as the new Commonwealth attorney of Campbell County; a job I have dreamed of for longer than I often admit. I would be lying if I said that it went according to plan. A historic snowstorm canceled the original swearing in ceremony, and once we got it rescheduled, a stomach virus running through our house kept my biggest cheerleader from being able to attend; my wife, Sara. Despite that, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by gratitude for all the people who were there in the courtroom with me; friends, family, elected officials, former employers, law enforcement officers, my staff, and of course, three little girls for whom I thank God every single day.
The fact that they took time from their busy lives to share this moment with me is humbling in a way that I will never forget. Yet, this feeling has become all too familiar over the last two years, and it extends to so many of you, as well.
From the moment this journey began on a piece of dry erase paper one night, you all have shown up for me in every imaginable way. You gave up your holidays to walk in parades, you attended countless festivals and events in your blue shirts, and most of all, you vouched for me to the people in your lives.
Words would never be enough for the support you have shown me over the last two years. Instead, I will show my gratitude by showing up every day for this community that we all love and fighting to keep our neighbors, our families, and our children safe. You believed in me, and I promise to show that you were right to do so.
On behalf of the boy that walked through Newport with his basketball dreaming to someday sit at this very desk:
Thank you.
