There are programs available to both landlords and tenants to provide financial assistance. Just because there is a moratorium in place, doesn't mean renters should become complacent. Rent will still become due when the moratorium lifts as the laws are currently written. Don't get hit with a tidal wave of an over-due rent payment. The CDC will keep its national moratorium on evictions in effect through June. The protection was slated to lapse in just days.

The new American Rescue Plan Act, commonly referred to as the new stimulus included a backwards looking rule that some amount of unemployment compensation from 2020 would not be taxable. If you received unemployment compensation last year. f your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than $150,000, the American Rescue Plan enacted on March 11, 2021, excludes from income up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation paid in 2020, which means you don’t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200.
