Our firm has been a proud supporter of the CNU Jazz 4 Justice concert series since its inception in 2014. This year’s concert, called Generations, was held on April 15, 2025, at the Ferguson Center at Christopher Newport University. Jordan Heath, as President of the Newport News Bar Association, had the pleasure of announcing that the 2025 concert raised over $22,000, with over $11,000 going to each of the concert beneficiaries, the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia and the CNU Jazz Ensemble.
This year’s concert broke our previous fundraising records and was the best attended of all the previous years.
This year was made more special by an expanded community involvement. In addition to the stirring performance by the talented artists in the CNU Jazz Ensemble and the concert’s guest artists, Amber Woodhouse and Hayden Cameron, the concert kicked off with a wonderful performance by the Soundscapes students. Soundcapes is a program that provides immersive engaging music making and ensemble performance opportunities for young people to strengthen social, emotional, creative, and critical thinking skills. And for a third year, members of our firm and other members of the Newport News Bar Association sponsored as special guests, students and chaperones from the Student Trial Advocates Reaching Success (“STARS”) program at the Achievable Dream Academy.
Every year, Heath Verser has provided sufficient funding for the concert series to guarantee that 100% of every dollar raised after our contribution goes to the beneficiaries. For the last several years, the beneficiaries have been the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia and the CNU Jazz Ensemble. Since its first concert in 2014, the CNU Jazz 4 Justice concert series has raised over $125,000 for concert beneficiaries.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support Jazz 4 Justice! Here are some of the photos from the concert.
