Law Office of Frances Prizzia

Law Office of Frances Prizzia Newport Beach Criminal Defense Attorney Prior to becoming an attorney and while in law school, Ms. Prizzia worked at the Public Defender's office in Santa Cruz.

Attorney Frances-Marie Prizzia dedicates her law practice to upholding the constitutional rights of her clients and zealously defending them. Her passion has always been in criminal defense and public service, as evidenced by her prior work and volunteer history. For the past few years before opening this firm, Attorney Prizzia worked for the Orange County Public Defender as well as the Los Angele

s County Alternate Defenders Office. While working for Orange County as a trial attorney, she obtained many dismissals by the court, in addition to taking cases to jury trial and winning most of her trial cases. As a law student, she successfully argued and won several motions to suppress evidence due to the unlawful violations of the Fourth Amendment by the investigating police officers. She also researched and wrote motions asking the court to order the disclosure of information regarding confidential informants and confidential police personnel files ("Pitchess motions.")

Ms. Prizzia has always been what attorneys call "a true believer." After graduating college, she worked for immigrant labor organizations as well as a mental healthcare center. It was during these times, in addition to her experiences growing up in Los Angeles, that Ms. Prizzia was able to witness first-hand the injustices suffered by the disenfrachised and impoverished. Her compassion and commitment to making a difference and defending those who needed help is what convinced her to apply for law school. Ms. Prizzia was accepted into, and chose to enroll in, Santa Clara University School of Law, where she had also received her undergraduate degree several years earlier. But some of the reasons Frances chose to return to Santa Clara University was because of its emphasis on criminal defense and public service. In addition to extensive trial advocacy training, the school is also home to the Death Penalty College, Northern California Innocence Project, and Center for Social Justice and Public Service. While in law school, she worked at the Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center, where she wrote two successful political asylum briefs and won a U-visa (victim of violence) application for her client, which allowed the client to obtain her permanent residency ("greencard") and a work permit in the United States.

📍 Capitol Hill |
This past May, I had the honor of joining NAPABA’s Lobby Day in Washington, D.C. — standing alongside AANHPI leaders from across the country to advocate for justice, equity, and visibility on Capitol Hill. 💬⚖️
We weren’t just there to talk. We were there to be heard.
In today’s climate of division, disinformation, and civil rights rollbacks, silence is not neutral — it’s dangerous.
🛑 Democracy doesn’t defend itself.
🛑 Rights don’t protect themselves.
🛑 Staying quiet only empowers those who thrive in our silence.
Lobbying isn’t just policy — it’s personal. Behind every law are real lives and real futures. We must keep showing up, speaking up, and organizing — especially when it’s inconvenient.
Let’s keep pulling that arc of justice. ✊🏽

Still feeling inspired after attending the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego Annual Dinner back in May! ✨💼🌸
Huge congratulations to the incoming board for organizing such an incredible night celebrating culture, community, and leadership. The energy in that room was something special. 🙌🏽
Hearing from Retired Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye was beyond powerful. Her speech reminded us what it means to have grit, to lead with purpose, and to uplift each other through mentorship and inclusion. 💪🏽⚖️
Events like this are so important—they remind us to stay connected to our roots, to honor our heritage, and to keep making our communities visible and strong. 💛🌏
Let’s keep pushing forward, together.

A moment to remember ✨
In May, I witnessed something powerful: the enrobing of the Honorable Judge Amber Poston—a true trailblazer and the visionary behind the Orange County Unity Bar.
As one of Unity Bar’s co-chairs, I’m proud to help carry forward our mission: diversifying the bench so it reflects our vibrant, diverse community.
At a time when the Supreme Court is handing down harmful rulings, we need local judges who will protect our rights, uphold our values, and truly serve all people.
We rise together. And we lead with purpose. 💪🏾⚖️

In April, I had the honor of attending Chapman Law’s Public Interest Law Foundation Alumni Scholarship Gala — an unforgettable night celebrating student support and public interest law.
Huge congratulations to Judge Bryan Clavecilla, the first Filipino male judge in Orange County, for receiving a well-deserved award for his leadership and impact. Representation matters — and he’s blazing trails for the next generation. 🙌🏽
Now more than ever, mentorship matters. In a time when truth, justice, and public service are under attack, we mustuplift the next generation — give them the tools to advocate, to fight, to speak up, speak out, and shatter ceilings.
Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep giving back.

As a minority woman, the child of an immigrant, and someone who lived through Martial Law under a dictator in the Philippines, I unequivocally denounce the actions of this administration and its inhumane raids and mistreatment of immigrant communities. I stand in unwavering solidarity with our hardworking immigrant brothers and sisters — regardless of race, color, or creed — as fellow human beings. I oppose the injustices being inflicted and the desecration of the rule of law and the core values we hold dear. As an attorney who swore an oath to uphold the rule of law and to advocate for those most vulnerable, I cannot and will not remain silent in the face of these blatant violations of basic human rights. I stand—as a Californian, as an American, and as a member of this profession—to call out this abuse of power.

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the Criminal Courts Bar Association’s 70th Annual Awards & Installation Dinner — a milestone celebration honoring decades of service, advocacy, and excellence in criminal law. ⚖️✨

Attended the annual Unity Bar Summit earlier this month where I was able to reconnect with Unity Bar leaders all over California committed to upholding the rule of law, diversifying the bench to reflect our communities, and creating a more equitable justice system.

The summit had dynamic panels and presentations that focused on the issues we are facing today with orders that contradict our deep held values of inclusivity and equal protection, including remarks from Unity Bar Ambassador Jessie Morris, an inspiring keynote speech from U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada addressing importance of equity and representation in our justice system, and powerful closing words from Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Cespedes.

The Unity Bar, founded in 1987, continues its mission to foster a judiciary that reflects the diversity of our communities. Grateful to be part of a movement that unites California’s affinity bar associations in pursuit of a more inclusive and equitable legal system.
