If you are helping an elderly friend or relative with getting documents notarized, double check that they have a valid ID.

A government issued driver’s license, passport, senior ID, or identification card must be either unexpired or issued within the last 5 years of the signing date.

If they don’t have an ID, 2 witnesses must be present at the notary appointment and must swear the following:

1. They personally know the signer.
2. The signer does not have access to ID.
3. The signer is the person named on the document.
4. They (witnesses) do not have a beneficial interest in the document.

The two witnesses must also have an unexpired ID with them to show the Notary.

👉 Notaries cannot provide documents. We can print them for you if you give them to us, but we cannot tell you which document to use, that would be giving legal advice.

👉 Before you make your Mobile Notary appointment to make sure all your documents are in order.

During tax season, many people are surprised to learn that certain documents may need to be notarized before they can be filed or submitted.

Here are some of the most common documents that often require notarization this time of year:

✔️ Power of Attorney (tax-related)
✔️ Affidavits or sworn statements
✔️ Identity verification forms
✔️ Business documents & certifications
✔️ Trust or estate-related paperwork
✔️ Financial statements requested by accountants or attorneys

I was recently in a Zoom meeting with the authors of this book. It reminded me of the book "What to Expect When Your Expecting". It was "THE" book to read when you were expecting, and I read it when I was pregnant with my first son. This should be "THE" book to read if you have aging parents.

Our members have a #1 ranked book on Amazon in 2 categories - Aging and Aging Self-Help. Congratulations to all of our authors!

"Aging in Place Conversations: The Caregiver’s Edition" is the third book in the Aging in Place Conversations series. It offers practical strategies, real stories, and guidance to help you navigate that journey with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

Created by members of the NAIPC, the authors bring decades of professional and personal experience. You’ll discover how to:

👉 Make homes safer and more adaptable for aging in place.
👉 Recognize and respond to health, wellness, and mobility needs.
👉 Navigate complex systems like Medicare, insurance, and financial planning.
👉 Support independence while preparing for emergencies and transitions.
👉 Balance caregiving with your own personal and professional responsibilities.

Whether you provide daily care, support from afar, or plan for the future, this book offers reassurance, practical guidance, and encouragement—you are not alone.

The other day, I got a call from a woman at the hospital with her brother. He was very sick, and she needed to help pay his bills and take care of things for him, but she didn't have the right paperwork. She asked if I could bring a Power of Attorney form for her to sign. I wished I could help, but notaries can't provide or prepare legal documents or give legal advice.

It broke my heart to hear the stress in her voice. All she wanted was to make sure her brother was taken care of. It was a reminder of how important it is to have your documents ready before you need them.

If this sounds familiar, take a few minutes to learn more and share with anyone you think might need it.

Over the years I’ve performed notary services in all kinds of places, with all sorts of circumstances. It never gets dull.

I kid you not, that I did a signing on ottoman, while sitting on the couch leaning forward for about an hour. Talk about back ache. To top it off, there was a placemat with a bowl of cat food on the ottoman. Luckily, I’m a cat person so I didn’t mind. During the signing, the cat decided it was time to eat and jumped onto the ottoman where all the documents were laid out. After she finished eating, she laid on the documents. The owner quickly shooed the cat away.

Since I’m an animal/cat person, this situation didn’t bother me at all. Yes, I was concerned when the cat laid on the documents. I didn’t want them to get crinkled. But I can see how this situation could be unacceptable for those who aren’t into cats😺😆🤪😂
