The United States Supreme Court terminated the CDC's unlawful eviction moratorium late last week.

With everything slowly getting back to normal, it's time for me to find a replacement for my assistant Ashley. I need someone with a notary commission, experience with quickbooks and preferably some legal or law-related experience.

The CDC's unconstitutional order suspending all evictions for non-payment was extended until January 31, 2021; Congress added that to the latest stimulus bill. It is reasonable to assume that the new administration will further extend the order.

That does not mean all hope is lost. If you have a tenant you are trying to get out of your property, give me a call.

NOW HIRING!

I congratulate my assistant Ashley Farmer, who has accepted an opportunity to work in the Licking County Prosecutor's Office.

Ashley will be here through the end of this month, giving me time to hire a new assistant and for her to assist with training. If you are interested, please let me know.

General information: the ideal candidate will have legal, financial or real estate experience, a notary license, and the ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and switch gears quickly Hours are 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday.

The CDC has issued a blatantly unconstitutional order banning evictions for non-payment through the end of the year and assessing fines of up to $250,000.00 against anyone who disobeys. If your tenant delivers to you the required notice, call us immediately to discuss your options.

To keep us and our clients safe, we are asking all visitors to schedule appointments in advance, so that we can have any documents ready at this table right inside the front door. We also have a drop box to the left of the front door. Any necessary face-to-face to sign wills, powers of attorney and deeds will be done from a distance, with Jon at the reception desk.

PSA: if you have not yet signed a healthcare power of attorney and a general power of attorney, do it now!

Normally, if you haven't signed these documents and you are unable to do so for whatever reason, the Probate Court will appoint a guardian for you - however, RIGHT NOW YOU CANNOT RELY ON THIS.

Our Probate Court is currently only accepting filings by mail and except in extreme emergencies hearings are being scheduled 30 days out. They are evaluating whether it is safe to send out social workers to investigate guardianship applications and there is no guarantee the courts will remain open during this crisis.

The ONLY reliable way to be sure someone is able to make decisions on your behalf is to authorize them yourself.

DO. IT. NOW.

I have decided that our office will remain OPEN during normal hours throughout this situation. People need us and we will continue to serve that need.

In particular, if this has reminded you that you haven't gotten around to doing that will, power of attorney and health care power of attorney, we want to be sure we are here to help.

We will be taking some reasonable precautions to keep our clients and ourselves safe. We will not be having face-to-face client meetings until further notice, except where original signatures are required on documents we are preparing, such as wills, deeds and powers of attorney - all other client meetings will be via telephone, and clients who will need us to review documents either at or in advance of that meetings will need to email them or drop them off ahead of time. If regular office hours are inconvenient, we have a night drop for your documents next to the front door.

We hope that this will all be over soon.

Public service announcement ... I have net yet heard whether the temporary receipt you get will satisfy Patriot Act requirements for banking and real estate closings, but I doubt that it will. Best advice: renew at least 30 days before your license expires!

The BMV said new licenses and identification cards should arrive in about 10 days after visiting a Deputy Registrar. A temporary proof of transaction would be issued at the time of sale per the BMV to confirm driving privileges until the card arrives

Due to the snow, we will open at 11 this morning.

As many of you know, I took a shot at an Independent run for Congress in the 12th District. As of last week, I decided to end my campaign and refocus all of my energy on my practice. Thank you all for your patience and support through this process!

We are open today -- although the City shut down Cherry Road to the north of us for the interchange, and in an unannounced surprise move they put up road closed signs at West Main to the south for road resurfacing. The only way to get here today is to take West Main out to Thornwood, turn right, follow the curve onto Reddington, then turn right onto Cherry Valley Road.
