- Newark children are hospitalized at 30× the national rate.
- 4 Superfund sites. 629 contaminated sites.

And yet — Newark also produced:
→ The national model for lead pipe replacement
→ The first municipal EJ ordinance in the nation (2015)
→ The first state EJ law that can actually say NO to polluters

Heads up: there’s a sophisticated scam going around targeting land use applicants.

People with matters pending before planning and zoning boards are getting emails that look like they’re from the board, asking them to wire an application review or approval fee. The emails often include detailed property and project information, and may even come with an invoice displaying the municipal seal to make the request look legitimate.

Do not send money based on an email alone. Always verify any payment request directly with your attorney or the municipality before taking action. If you receive something like this, do not respond and contact your land use attorney right away.
