Congratulations to our 2026 summer intern Miriam Spence on winning second place in the 2026 Columbia Undergraduate Law Review High School Essay Contest Columbia Undergraduate Law Review !!! 🎉✍🏻 Out of nearly 800 entries worldwide this year, Miriam’s brilliant essay placed second. 🌏🤩

This year’s essay contest topic, National Sovereignty and the Rights of Non-Citizens, concentrated on immigration law, a specialty practice area for us. When writing her now award-winning essay, Miriam reflected deeply upon her time at Anderson & Associates Law. She says: “I want to thank Ms. Anderson and Mr. Anderson for the remarkable insight they gave into immigration processes. They are both excellent legal writers, devoted to helping immigrant clients, and I am grateful to Anderson & Associates for allowing me to work in such a critical field this past summer.”

On August 5, 2026, we were privileged to host Justice Lillian Wan along with a group of high school, undergraduate, recent graduates, and law students! We are so grateful to Justice Wan for sharing her valuable insights and advice with this group of aspiring attorneys.

The attendees departed this event with a valuable understanding: success is defined not by accolades or perfection, but by perseverance, confidence, and a steadfast commitment to serving their communities. As we enjoyed the decadent Passion Collection cakes from Lady M Confections Official, we learned so much from her wisdom and experiences with perseverance and zealous advocacy. On August 4, 2026, a group of dedicated AABANY Book Club members gathered to share their insightful thoughts on their monthly book Nora Ephron’s I Feel Bad About My Neck. The members discussed a plethora of topics relating to this book and its author: from how “New York” this book is, aging, career reflections, maintaining success while thriving through changes brought by womanhood, to the Chinese dishes mentioned.

This book brought about a mix of serious, humorous, and insightful conversations from our book club members. This activity reminds us that reading is a way to reflect, grow, and build a stronger community within AABANY. Thank you to all those who attended!

We were so excited to host Breakthrough New York middle school students for their annual career day on July 23rd 2026! We organized a mock lease agreement where they divided into two groups of landlords and tenants, with the objective of successfully negotiating appropriate terms.

It was so much fun to see their passion and creativity as they reached their final agreement. It is always a pleasure to host Career Day and we hope to see them again next year!
