Congratulations to Joseph Verde ’26 for winning the BLIP x Legal Hackers Hackathon, a competition featuring proposals "detailing a legal and technology-based solution for any issue within the broader topic of political process reform."

Verde’s entry recommended addressing the escalating impact social media platforms have on elections by proposing that social media companies be subject to the same standards as traditional broadcast media. This would enable candidates to engage in the political process on popular platforms without concerns of private censorship.

A BLIP Clinic victory on the copyrightability of AI-assisted writing. Let's see how the dominos fall where the law of unintended consequences meets the random walk. Perhaps only the AI could predict the lay of the land ten years down the road -- How One Author Pushed the Limits of AI Copyright:

Elisa Shupe was initially rebuffed when she tried to copyright a book she wrote with help from ChatGPT. Now the US Copyright Office has changed course—but there’s a catch.

Join us Friday, April 5, from 1 to 3:30 pm, for "EFT Spots and Crypto Bots: The Evolving Frontier of Fintech Law and Policy."

The fintech landscape is ever changing; with the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs, crypto has achieved a new level of mainstream credibility. In markets and trading news, validator bribery is a phenomenon reminiscent of the events in the 2010s that inspired 2015’s Flash Boys by Michael Lewis. And the new revolution in AI software over the last year may have implications for crypto and traditional trading that may resemble bots trading against each other and a few human retail traders on the periphery.

The program will include a law and policy Q&A with Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and an expert panel featuring Jason P. Gottlieb, Partner & Chair, Digital Assets and Chair, White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement, Morrison Cohen; Vijay Raghavan, Associate Professor of Law, Brooklyn Law School; Kayvan Sadeghi, Partner, Jenner & Block; and moderator Peter Scoolidge ’08, Partner, Scoolidge, Peters, Russotti & Fox LLP.

Can the U.S., innovate its way to a democracy that better serves people in the digital age? As the 2024 presidential election cycle kicks off, we hosted a panel on politics, democracy, and public policy, including financier Anthony Scaramucci, a former Trump communications director; former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, who founded the Forward Party; and professors Charles Wheelan, of Dartmouth College, and Beth Simone Noveck, of Northeastern University. The event was moderated by Jerome Grazioli ’19. They discussed the role of tech and AI in elections, Congressional dysfunction, the presidential race and more. We're hosting what should be an interesting discussion on Monday evening: Innovating American Politics: Reimagining Democracy in the Digital Age -

As the 2024 Presidential election cycle kicks off, the United States seems to be at an inflection point.
