I had to laugh when I saw this ad.

“A career with more control?”

I’ve been in real estate for more than 20 years, and I can’t imagine many careers where you have less control.

I spend my days putting out fires, solving unexpected problems, protecting my clients from things none of us saw coming, and dealing with buyers, sellers, attorneys, lenders, appraisers, managing agents, boards, contractors and brokers. And every one of them has the ability to change what happens next.

You can do everything right and still have something completely outside your control threaten a deal.

That’s actually one of the things I love about real estate.

Success isn’t about controlling everything. It’s about knowing how to manage the things you can’t control. Staying calm. Anticipating problems. Finding solutions. And making sure your clients know that someone is looking out for them when things get complicated.

After all these years, the gratitude I get from my clients is still one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

But control?

Definitely not. 😂
