The Knicks won the title! But how will it affect my traffic ticket?

Unless you’ve been marooned on an island unstuck in time or you’re one of the esteemed astronauts manning the International Space Station, you know that the Knicks won the NBA championship.

Hooray!

This means that on Thursday, a few million fans will fete the team at a parade in Manhattan. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. and will follow the usual route down up Broadway (the fabled “Canyon of Heroes”) to City Hall, where the team will address the crowd in what’s sure to be one of the most gleeful days in recent New York City history.

The parade will pass a few blocks away from 17 Battery Place, which is the location of the Manhattan South Traffic Violations Bureau court. And thousands of NYPD officers will work the parade route, some of which would otherwise be in one of the City’s eight traffic courts.

As of now, the TVB courts are officially OPEN on Thursday, June 18.

In Manhattan South, it’s likely that most, if not all, of the police officers will be unavailable. This means that a small percentage of tickets will be dismissed, but the majority of them will be rescheduled against the police officer. This only benefits you if you appear for your case, so make sure you you do so, or hire a lawyer to do so for you.

As for the other seven courts, they will be mostly business as usual. Some officers will be working the parade, but most of them will be in court testifying.

And June 19 is a state holiday, meaning that all eight courts will be closed on Friday.

Go Knicks and happy Juneteenth!

Michael van Erp is a professional a—hole. London's most notorious vigilante traffic cop films cars at intersections, waiting for drivers to use their cellphone. He then uploads the footage and reports them to the Metropolitan Police. Since 2019 he's reported more than 2,400 drivers who have been fined £168,568.
