Over the years we have seen a lot of personal injury cases resulting from dangerous conditions at even the most luxurious summer rentals. Landlords are responsible for keeping their rentals safe, whether for short-term or long-term tenants. Here's what to be on the lookout for. http://langsamlaw.com/what-dangers-lurk-at-rental-properties/

Rental properties require constant upkeep—usually more so than residences due to increased wear-and-tear from renters without a vested interest in taking care of the property. Rentals are also notorious for hidden issues. Renters often don’t report day-to-day nuisances to the owners or managemen...

Due to COVID, the Child Victims Act was extended, giving child sexual abuse victims another full year to bring a civil suit against their attackers, no matter how long ago the crime was committed. As things stand now, after August 14, 2021, statutes of limitations will enter into force, and this look-back window will close. Now, the Adult Survivors Act, which seeks to waive statutes of limitations for a victims of sexual abuse when they were 18 and older, has passed in the New York Senate. http://langsamlaw.com/adult-survivors-act-passes-senate/

In 2019, lawmakers passed the Child Victims Act, which temporarily lifted statutes of limitations for child sexual abuse victims, empowering survivors to bring suit against their attackers no matter how long ago the crime was committed. Last Wednesday, the New York Senate unanimously passed a bill to fully repeal the state’s COVID-19 nursing home and hospital immunity provisions.

Last April, in an effort to support first responders in getting aid out amid the pandemic crisis, Governor Cuomo issued an executive order protecting them from civil and criminal liability claims. It had some unintended consequences, though. "This immunity stripped thousands of grieving familie

The Child Victims Act removed all statutes of limitations for civil child sexual abuse cases—but only temporarily. The original window to file a suit was set to end August 14, 2020. Due to hardships imposed by COVID-19, Governor Cuomo has extended that window to August 14, 2021. More than 3,000 victims have come forward. If you or someone you know has ever been a victim of child sexual assault, now is the time to act.

Amidst opposition from the Catholic Church and insurance companies, the Child Victims Act sat on the back burner of the New York legislature for 13 years—until it was finally signed into law in 2019. The act gave sexual abuse victims legal recourse, removing all statutes of limitations for civil c...

New York Courts are Open! In mid-March, courts were only accepting matters related to criminal suits and family law. This was short-lived. Civil courts have been up and running via virtual technology for a long time and, what’s more, they’ve become more efficient! No more long days waiting in crowded court rooms. Your case can get resolved quicker and more efficiently than ever before.

Many people are still operating under the misapprehension that courts in New York are closed and not accepting or trying cases. It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, and while the cases being admitted at the beginning of the economic shutdown in mid-March were extremely limited, the
