The takeaway for employees is that the law matters when:
✔️ Your schedule keeps changing without notice
✔️ Your hours get cut without your consent
✔️ You're not getting paid what you're owed

15,000 workers just got a $39 million win because the Fair Workweek Law was on their side.

If you want to understand your rights under New York law, contact Katz Melinger at 646-849-3352.

The city says about 15,000 employees will get paid $50 for each week worked over a three-year period. For some workers, that's thousands of dollars.

Winning a judgment is often only the first step. Recovery can become more complicated when a debtor delays payment, remains in possession, or attempts to shield assets.

👉 In this case study, we helped a commercial landlord recover funds and regain control of valuable space through a coordinated enforcement strategy.

✔️ Asset protection issues

Did things change after you spoke up?

Retaliation isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it looks like small changes — schedule shifts, sudden discipline, or being excluded. If negative changes started after you raised a concern, it may be worth getting clarity sooner rather than later.

Not sure whether what happened qualifies as retaliation under New York law?
Call Katz Melinger at 646-849-3352 to discuss your situation.

Workplace bullying isn’t always obvious — sometimes it’s subtle, repeated, and hard to explain.

Patterns like exclusion, withheld information, micromanaging, or passive-aggressive communication can quietly damage confidence and career growth over time.

You may want to pay attention if:
✔️ You’re consistently left out of meetings or key conversations
✔️ Important information is withheld, setting you up to make mistakes
✔️ You’re being singled out with unrealistic scrutiny or shifting expectations

At-will doesn’t mean “anything goes.”

Many New York and New Jersey employees hear “at-will” and believe it limits their options. But at-will does not mean an employer can terminate someone for an illegal reason.

If a termination follows a complaint, a wage issue, or a protected characteristic, it may be worth asking questions sooner rather than later.

If you were told “at-will” and you’re unsure whether your termination was legal under New York and New Jersey law, we can help you get clear answers. Contact Katz Melinger PLLC at 646-849-3352.

👶 What would you do if your employer treated your pregnancy as a problem?

Sadly, pregnancy discrimination still happens — even though both federal and New York laws protect expectant and new parents from unfair treatment at work.

Here’s what every employee should know:

✔️ Equal treatment: Employers can’t make decisions about hiring, firing, pay, or promotions based on pregnancy or related medical conditions.

✔️ Reasonable accommodations: New York law requires adjustments like lighter duties, more breaks, or flexible schedules so employees can work safely.

✔️ Job-protected leave: Eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the FMLA, plus paid time off and continued health insurance through New York’s Paid Family Leave program.

✔️ Support for nursing mothers: Employers must provide break time and a private space (not a restroom) to pump breast milk.

Pregnancy should be met with understanding and support — not bias or penalties: https://conta.cc/3JJ3XZJ
