USCIS just made it a lot riskier to file an incomplete case.

As of August 5, 2026, USCIS can deny your application, petition, or benefit request without sending an RFE or a NOID first. That safety net where you could fix a missing document after the fact? It’s gone in a lot of cases.

Officers still have the option to send an RFE, but you can’t count on it anymore. If your initial filing is missing required evidence, you could be denied outright, no second chance, no refund on your filing fee.

Bottom line: your application needs to be complete and correct the first time. Talk to your attorney about exactly what’s required before you submit, not after.

Not so good Friday indeed.
The Supreme Court just ruled on two major immigration cases and the impact is significant.
One: asylum seekers at the Mexico border can now be turned away before they even set foot on U.S. soil. Border officials are no longer required to process their claims.
Two: Temporary Protected Status for Haiti and Syria has been cleared to end. That means roughly 350,000 Haitians and thousands of Syrians who have been living and working legally in the U.S. could lose their protection.
If you or someone you know is on TPS or has been waiting at the border, do not panic but do not wait either. Your options depend on your specific situation and time matters.
