NYC Strengthens Legionnaires’ Disease Safety Measures

Following a tragic Legionnaires’ disease outbreak on Manhattan’s Upper East Side that sickened 94 people and claimed 11 lives, NYC is strengthening cooling-tower oversight and enforcement. The new measures aim to improve safety monitoring and help prevent future outbreaks. Strong prevention and maintenance measures are essential to protecting public health.

The 11 deaths top the total number of deaths in a similar outbreak in Harlem in 2025, when seven people lost their lives.

Pazer Epstein Jaffe Fein & Gozenput, P.C. is proud to announce a $1,750,000 recovery on behalf of a 63-year-old electrician who suffered serious injuries after being struck by a forklift while performing electrical work at a construction site.

The forklift, operated by an employee of the defendants during the course of his employment, struck our client and caused severe injuries to his foot, including multiple fractures. The injuries required extensive medical treatment and had a lasting impact on both his ability to work and his quality of life.

The case was vigorously litigated through discovery and underwent substantial trial preparation. Partner Eugene Gozenput was fully prepared to present the case at trial, demonstrating our commitment to pursuing the best possible outcome for our client. Approximately one month before the scheduled trial date, he secured a $1,750,000 settlement at mediation.

We are honored to have stood by our client every step of the way.

Brake Safety Week Is Underway | August 23–29

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual Brake Safety Week is underway across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with a focus on commercial vehicle brake safety and inspections. This year, inspectors are paying particular attention to brake drums and rotors to help identify issues that could compromise stopping power. We support Brake Safety Week and the many safety initiatives in place to help make New York roads safer for everyone.

1 CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED, 2 INJURED IN NESCONSET CRASH

Sadly, one construction worker has died and two others were injured after being struck by a vehicle while working on a paving project in Nesconset this morning. The workers were contractors working for Suffolk County when the crash occurred, and authorities continue to investigate. This tragic accident is a reminder of how dangerous road construction zones can be and how important it is for drivers to slow down, stay alert, and give workers plenty of space.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the worker who lost his life, and our thoughts are with the two injured workers as they recover.

The crash happened at the intersection of Townline and Terry roads around 6:43 a.m.

$5,510,000 LABOR LAW SETTLEMENT

Pazer Epstein Jaffe Fein & Gozenput, P.C. is proud to announce a $5,510,000 recovery on behalf of a worker who suffered significant head and spine injuries while performing repairs in the shipping and receiving area of a building.

Our client was injured when a heavy steel plate fell and struck him in the head. His injuries required multiple surgeries and ultimately left him unable to return to his previous work.

The case was brought under New York Labor Law 240(1), which provides important protections for workers injured by elevation-related hazards, including falling objects. Liability was heavily contested, with the defendants seeking dismissal by arguing that our client's work was not an activity covered by the statute.

After years of discovery, the firm engaged in extensive motion practice seeking to hold the defendants fully liable. While those motions were pending, partners Michael Jaffe and Matthew Fein successfully mediated the case, securing a $5,510,000 settlement on behalf of our client.

We are incredibly proud of the work our team put into achieving this result and, above all, honored to have stood by our client throughout this difficult journey.
