The Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery registration period typically takes place in the fall, but the official dates for DV-2028 have not yet been announced. 🌎

If you’re planning to apply, now is a good time to prepare and know what to watch for:

1️⃣ Wait for the official announcement. The U.S. Department of State publishes the registration dates and instructions for each year’s Diversity Visa Program.
2️⃣ Registration is free. Be cautious of anyone charging a fee simply to enter the lottery or claiming they can improve your chances of being selected.
3️⃣ Check the eligibility requirements. Applicants must meet the program’s country-of-eligibility requirements as well as the applicable education or qualifying work-experience requirements.
4️⃣ Submit only one entry. Multiple entries for the same person during a registration period can result in disqualification.

And remember: being selected in the lottery does not automatically guarantee a visa.

Planning a trip abroad to see family this fall? ✈️

If you're in the U.S. on a temporary work or student visa—or you have a pending Adjustment of Status (Form I-485)—international travel requires careful planning.

Before you book your trip:
• Make sure you have the proper travel and re-entry documents for your immigration status.
• F-1 and J-1 students should confirm their I-20 or DS-2019 has a valid travel signature.
• If you have a pending Form I-485, don't travel until you've confirmed you're authorized to do so. Most applicants need approved Advance Parole before leaving the U.S., although some visa holders may qualify for limited exceptions.

The U.S. Department of State has officially released the August 2026 Visa Bulletin—and as we head toward the end of the fiscal year (September 30), visa numbers are officially running out.

Here are the critical updates you need to know:

🛑 THE BIG SHOCKER: India EB-2 & EB-5 Go "Unavailable"
Due to reaching annual numerical limits, the State Department has marked the following categories as UNAVAILABLE (U) on the Final Action chart for August:
• EB-2 India: UNAVAILABLE 🛑 (No further approvals until the new fiscal year starts in October)
• EB-5 Unreserved India: UNAVAILABLE 🛑
⚠️ Warning: DOS explicitly warned that EB-1 India may also become unavailable in the coming weeks before FY2026 closes.

💼 EMPLOYMENT-BASED HIGHLIGHTS:
• EB-1 (Worldwide / Philippines / Mexico): Remains CURRENT ✅
• EB-2 (Worldwide / Philippines / Mexico): Remains CURRENT ✅ (Warning: General EB-2 could face retrogression soon)
• EB-3 (Philippines): August 1, 2023 (Holds steady)
