Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
In light of murders of a journalist and worshipers we need leadership that protects our journalists and the constitutional freedom of religion. We do not need protection of moneyed governments and hate groups, nor pandering to the majority religion, asking Christians to pray, which misses the point that the values of the 1st Amendment are what defines us as Americans. Practice of all religions must be equally respected and protected.

America needs to support the press and the right to practice any religion as our 1st Amendment requires. The administrations’ response to Khashoggi’s murder and the synagogue shootings yesterday is inadequate. Trumps’ rally calling for”prayer” to a Christian majority missed the opportunity to call on all Americans to support the First Amendments’ rights for all of us to: 1. have a free press which requires we do not permit our journalists to be murdered, and 2. Protect freedom of religion which requires that rather than pandering to Christians our leadership must support all religions’ rights to practice without being murdered. Why does our leadership miss the opportunity to state that it is un American to hate based on religion?
