We've had a really exciting 2023 so far! We're resolving big, important cases, we're growing our team, and we're filing exciting new matters. Read all about it here.

2023 has brought some exciting developments, none more hard-fought than this week’s $12.6 million settlement on behalf of Ralph “Ricky” Birch, who spent 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. This week, the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General, along with KLLF and our co-couns...

We are thrilled and honored to be representing Adam Carmon, whose criminal charges were finally officially dropped this week. Mr. Carmon was wrongfully convicted of murder and spent nearly three decades in prison. He is now a free man.

Seven months after a Connecticut court overturned KLLF client Adam Carmon’s murder conviction, the charges were officially and finally dismissed Tuesday, June 13, 2023. The dismissal comes after the court found that New Haven police and prosecutors had hid exculpatory evidence and that the forensi

We are so proud of this historic settlement on behalf of the hundreds of people brutalized at a BLM protest in the Bronx in June 2020.

If you know anyone who was there (at East 136th Street and Brook Avenue on June 4, 2020), please spread the word so they can learn about the settlement and how to participate in it.

A historic agreement was announced yesterday, February 28, 2023 in a class action lawsuit brought on behalf of more than 300 protesters who were kettled and brutally assaulted by the NYPD during a protest in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx during a protest following the killing of George Fl

This week, on behalf of RAINN (R**e, Abuse and In**st National Network), KLLF filed an amicus brief urging the Seventh Circuit to adopt Title IX standards that reflect the broad range of educational deprivations faced by survivors of sexual violence who are left unprotected by their schools.

We are honored to support the plaintiff in this case, a sexual assault survivor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison ("UW”).

This week, KLLF filed a “friend of the court” brief on behalf of RAINN (R**e, Abuse and In**st National Network), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to adopt Title IX standards that reflect the broad range of educati...

Today, we filed a new federal lawsuit against a group home and its employees, who we allege demeaned, mocked, abused, and neglected our client, a woman with severe disabilities that confined her to a wheelchair. Rather than being treated with respect and dignity, our client was targeted for the very disabilities that staff were supposed to be assisting her with.

KLLF filed a federal civil rights lawsuit today on behalf of S.M., a woman with disabilities who was abused, neglected, and discriminated against by staff members of a group home in New York operated by the Arc of Westchester. S.M. is a 35-year-old woman living with cerebral palsy and other disab

Our former client, James Jenkins, spoke to WNYC about the false arrest and illegal strip search he was subjected to at the hands of the Nassau County Police -- a police force that has a notably abysmal record of disciplining officers who violate the law. Check out the story here.

In the same time period, 30 people won court judgments against Nassau County Police for allegations of false arrest and excessive force.

Men who were trapped on a burning prison bus have now sued NY State over its negligence and failure to provide them adequate medical treatment. KLLF will be litigating these claims in the Court of Claims and we are hopeful for a just result.

KLLF has filed a claim on behalf of 16 incarcerated men who were left choking on smoke and fearing for their lives on a burning bus by employees of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (“DOCCS”). The claim, brought in the New York Court of Claims, asserts that t...

Many brokers and landlords still don't realize that it's illegal to discriminate against renters who use housing vouchers, like Section 8, to pay their rent. We're excited to be representing the Fair Housing Justice Center in this righteous case, seeking to enforce New York's prohibition of source-of-income discrimination.

KLLF has filed a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the Fair Housing Justice Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people have equal access to housing opportunities in the New York City region by eliminating housing discrimination and creating open

Today, two brothers who were imprisoned for a collective 18 years for a murder they did not commit filed a civil rights lawsuit in West Virginia. KLLF is thrilled to be representing them in their long-overdue fight for justice.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, KLLF, along with co-counsel Hissam Forman Donovan Ritchie PLLC , based in Charleston, West Virginia, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Philip and Nathan Barnett, two brothers who were wrongfully convicted and collectively spent 18 years in prison for a m

A federal judge rejected a school's motion to dismiss a KLLF-filed lawsuit alleging horrific bullying of a young man for being gay. The decision ruled that KLLF’s lawsuit plausibly alleges “long-running inattention, inaction, and deflection by the defendants,” and that “school officials turned a blind eye to the harassment D.S. was experiencing, doing little, if anything, to protect him.” The court remarked that “the facts alleged make out a textbook case of deliberate indifference.”

We're proud this important case can move forward!

On April 22, 2022, Manhattan federal judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued a 44-page opinion sustaining a lawsuit filed last year by KLLF on behalf of Jason Cianciotto against the New York City Department of Education. Mr. Cianciotto’s son, D.S., was relentlessly bullied after coming out as gay while

Today we filed an amicus brief in the 6th Circuit on behalf of sexual violence survivors' organizations urging the court to create fair rules for filing Title IX lawsuits against schools that allow serial abusers to prey on students. We are proud to be helping these groups fight to ensure survivors have a day in court.
