Huawei P60 Series goes official in China with a striking design

The Huawei P60 Pro and Huawei P60 look relatively identical in design and on paper. Both sport 6.67-inch LTPO screens with Full HD+ resolutions and have refresh rates up to 120Hz. They additionally support the global P3 color gamut and feature TÜV Rheinland certification.

The P60 models measure 8.3mm in thickness and weigh 200 grams, making them thinner and lighter. On the rear, both models come with a striking design, particularly with the Rococo White variant that these devices ship in. In addition, there are three other colorways to give users more options.

All three Huawei P60 models come with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. And while it's not the latest and greatest from Qualcomm, many of the best Android phones are powered by the 8+ Gen 1, which may help keep costs down while still providing plenty of power and efficiency.

The P60 series comes in multiple storage options with up to 512GB and support expandable storage option for up to 256GB.

This three-year-old LG smartphone is getting Android 13

I hate feeling like a servant to my phone. When it's constantly calling for attention from one app or another, a status bar filled with things I don't really care about but have to look at I sometimes question who is in charge.

I have a few ways I try to manage this. Weekends are on Do Not Disturb mode and that mostly works, but I found a better way. Almost.

Enter the Nokia 2780 Flip(opens in new tab). What?! A flip phone? Yes, a flip phone. But not the kind of flip phone you think.

The elephant in the room is that I have to have a phone that uses Android if I want to honestly and accurately write about Android phones and Google's software for a living. I don't think of this as a burden or anything because Android is a damn fine bit of software, but to know it well enough to get paid for knowing about it you have to use it every day.

The second reason is the killer of dreams though, and that's the fact that the 2780 is a 4G-only phone. It's not future-proof and it often hates trying to navigate T-Mobile's squirrelly network, leaving me with no signal or a really weird slow signal that I can't share with another device. We'll get to that in a minute.

First things first. The Nokia 2780 Flip is an inexpensive phone that's well-built but pretty basic. I'm not going to list a bunch of OMG specs or anything because there is nothing list-worthy — Snapdragon 215, a basic camera, an SD card slot, and a 1,400-something mAh battery. it does have a removable battery and an FM radio so that's kind of cool.

OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite tipped to bring older specs to a newer design

The specifications put out by the tipsters corroborate with the same in addition, the Nord CE 3 Lite is expected to sport a 6.7-inches LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. Further, the device could feature up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM paired with 128GB of relatively slower UFS 2.2 storage, which is a bit of a letdown in 2023, particularly with the budget smartphone segment that the Nord CE 3 Lite competes in. Moreover, the device could also feature microSD expansion support.

There are two significant circular modules on the back for the triple camera setup. For optics, the device is expected to feature a 108MP primary camera aided by two additional 2MP sensors. On the front, the punch-hole camera should host a 16MP selfie shooter.

The Nord CE 3 Lite seems to be shipping with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13. Leaker SnoopyTech indicates that the phone will get two OS upgrades and three years of security updates. Underneath, it will be powered by an older Snapdragon 695 5G chipset. The connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, USB Type-C, and Bluetooth 5.1.

OnePlus is also launching its affordable OnePlus Nord Buds 2 alongside the Nord CE 3 Lite on April 4. While the launch is a week away, OnePlus has started teasing the Nord CE 3 Lite on its social handles. Amazon India also has a listing(opens in new tab) in place.

Asus confirms the ROG Phone 7 launch date

The audacious experiment of bringing gaming features to mobile devices has gained traction among OEMs and evolved into a full-fledged trend led by brands such as Asus. The Taiwanese tech giant has now confirmed when it will unveil its next flagship phone.

Asus is set to take the wraps off the ROG Phone 7 on April 13, according to the company. The timing is remarkably a bit earlier than last year's launch for the ROG Phone 6, which arrived in July.

Little is known about the ROG Phone 7, but if previous leaks are any indication, it could be powered by Qualcomm's latest and greatest mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Earlier this month, the phone was spotted on benchmarking platform Geekbench alongside its 7D sibling. Asus' ROG Phones are a mainstay in our top picks for the best gaming phones, and the ROG Phone 7 will likely continue in that vein. The Geekbench listing revealed a few key specs of the handset, including an AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, similar to its predecessor.

Like the previous lineup, we may also see three models in the ROG Phone 7 series. This means that on top of the regular and ROG Phone 7D models, an Ultimate model may also be in the works.

However, one of Asus' weaknesses is its limited software updates. The company's offerings, including its ROG Phone line, are currently receiving two major OS upgrades. Here's hoping that Asus will follow in the footsteps of Google, Samsung, Oppo, and OnePlus in providing longer software support.

What is Samsung Vision Booster?

Samsung employs a lot of specialized technologies for its Galaxy phones, but few shine as bright as Vision Booster. Beginning with the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung Vision Booster kicks in when a phone's display is in bright sunlight, making it easier to see when you're in the great outdoors.

But how does Vision Booster work and why is it different from a screen that's just very bright? Here's where you find out.

Samsung Vision Booster kicks in automatically when Adaptive Brightness is enabled in the phone's display settings and is present in all the best Samsung phones(opens in new tab) like the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23 lines. The Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra(opens in new tab) are the two phones that can get the brightest, peaking at 1,750 nits of brightness. The less expensive models often peak at 1,500 nits with Vision Booster.

But Vision Booster goes beyond just increasing brightness. In addition to maxing out those pixels, Vision Booster reduces contrast and changes up the tone mapping on the screen, producing an image that's technically less rich but more visible for a set of human eyes when viewing a screen under direct sunlight.

The important part here is to focus on being in direct sunlight which, at the normal contrast ratios and color depth levels, makes a display extremely difficult to view. That's because modern smartphone displays don't reflect light back into their pixels the way an E-ink device(opens in new tab) would. Rather, they have to produce enough brightness to overpower the Sun's rays from the perspective of our eyes.

Oukitel WP19 rugged phone review: A battery beast

While most consumers are keen to splash out on big-ticket new phone releases, some may prefer to buy phones with a specific purpose rather than models that do a lot of tricks. Oukitel is a niche phone brand known for its rugged smartphones, and the Oukitel WP19 is one of its most recent releases.

The 2022 model made waves when it first hit the market due to its massive battery, which is not found in many of the best rugged Android phones. Its 21,000mAh battery is said to keep the lights on for more than a week, which sounds plausible.

However, will its huge battery capacity be enough to make for a tempting proposition? The phone is built to survive a pile of jagged stones and bathing in the rain or mud, but do the rest of its features push the envelope in terms of what it offers? Let's find out.

The Oukitel WP19 retails at a regular price of $459 through the company's online storefront. At the moment, it's available to purchase for only $439.90.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 receive the March 2023 security update

Android OEMs aren't always timely with monthly security updates, but Samsung has had a great track record in recent years. Since the One UI 5 release, the company has been on a spree in delivering firmware updates and, most importantly, monthly updates to most of the Galaxy devices, including foldables.

The latest foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 are receiving the new March 2023 update this week, as noted by SamMobile.

The new update comes amidst the recent vulnerabilities Google’s Project Zero team detected on Samsung’s Exynos-powered chipsets. For the uninitiated, the Galaxy S22 models featuring Exynos SoCs were among the few Samsung devices affected by the recent vulnerabilities.

While the foldables are the recent ones to get the March 2023 update, other older models like Galaxy S23, S22, and S21 models have received the update prior.

However, SamMobile notes that Samsung has addressed five vulnerabilities with the new update from the list (CVE-2023-26072, CVE-2023-26073, CVE-2023-26074, CVE-2023-26075, CVE-2023-26076) that involves 18 in total.

The OnePlus 11 barely makes it through a tough durability test

What you need to know
-JerryRigEverything performs a durability test on the OnePlus 11.
-Previous OnePlus flagships did not fare too well in similar tests, bending completely beneath the camera housing.
-The OnePlus 11 is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and Gorilla Glass 5 on the back.

If you love watching expensive smartphones getting scratched up, burned, and bent, then you're likely a fan of JerryRigEverything. This time around, he puts the new OnePlus 11 through the wringer to see whether or not it would fare better than its predecessors.

The video is prefaced by acknowledging that the previous OnePlus flagships, including the OnePlus 10T, did not survive his durability tests, completely snapping just beneath the camera housing. The OnePlus 10 Pro before it suffered a similar fate, which doesn't bode well for OnePlus.

Things start off well enough as the OnePlus 11 is praised for its design, particularly the circular camera island and the return of the alert slider. The phone manages fairly well during the scratch test, and the display comes out of the burn test unscathed. However, the bend test is where things take a turn.

Asus' next flagship phones could feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset

Asus' ROG Phone line exists usually to wipe the floor with games available on Android, matched with hardware performance that stacks up against the competition. The ROG Phone 6 series is a classic example, and its successor could continue in that vein, thanks in large part to Qualcomm's most recent and greatest chipset.

Two variants of the rumored Asus ROG Phone 7 series, equipped with Qualcomm's 4nm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, have been spotted on Geekbench. In addition to the processor, the listing reveals a few key potential specs of the ROG Phone 7 and 7D, including Android 13 out of the box and up to 16GB of RAM (via MySmartPrice(opens in new tab)).

According to the benchmarking test results spotted by the outlet, the ROG Phone 7D garnered 2012 and 5697 points in the single and multi-core tests, respectively. Meanwhile, in the single-core and multi-core tests, the regular model scored(opens in new tab) 2022 and 5719, respectively.
