It was an honor to contribute in my small way as a committee member for the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. On this evening some of the most talented and most capable attorneys in the world gathered to honor each other’s contributions to the profession. We also honored the great jurist, Chief Justice of the New York State Court of Appeals Rowan Wilson. We acknowledged the heart and soul of the association, Jennifer VanOrt. We also acknowledged a great teacher, attorney, and human being, the brilliant Rob G. wells. It was a beautiful evening.

Racial Bias is implicit in our criminal Justice system. There’s no disputing this fact. When I attend events like this, I am very impressed by the speakers, but also the people that attend. Defense practitioners, civil liberties giants, members of the public, professionals that crave ways to be involved, and career freedom fighters. There’s something special in a room like this because the people there are the ones that take on the fight. It was frustrating that DA Alvin Bragg couldn’t take part on this evening, but I hope to see him at the next one. I wanted to hear his perspective. Form DA Rob Johnson always told his prosecutors to investigate their cases and stand up for the right thing. I took that instruction seriously. I hope DA Bragg is doing the same thing in his office.

Thank you for having me back for a third year to speak to the high school students at Flushing High School during AAFE’s annual career fair. Speaking to these intelligent young people filled me with energy and hope for the future. 🇲🇦
