IDP via The Intercept: "... every single day, we know that the Department of Corrections, the Department of Probation, and also yes, the NYPD, they are continuing to communicate and collaborate with ICE.” NYC has the chance *right now* to strengthen the city's sanctuary policies to end city agency collaboration with ICE. Three bills are waiting for New York City Council to act: Intros 1077, 1078, and 209 (NYC Trust Act).

After ICE shot a young father in Manhattan, New Yorkers asked the mayor to protect them from his police department and federal agents alike.

The horrific incident of ICE shooting Oscar Belgal in front of his son is difficult to put into words. But here's what isn't difficult for us to say: ICE is an agency that knows no bounds and has no regard for life or liberty. Abolish ICE now.

Latest analysis from The Legal Aid Society shows that NYPD misconduct lawsuits have cost NYC taxpayers $53 million so far this year. And while NYPD misconduct continues to cost New Yorkers tens of millions of dollars each year, officers accused of abuse too often remain employed without meaningful discipline.

From an immigrant justice perspective, this failure to deliver meaningful policing reform comes at a particularly dangerous moment, as the Trump administration's increased federal immigration enforcement heightens the consequences of police contact for immigrant New Yorkers.
