NEW: Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced grants of clemency to 6 New Yorkers. We celebrate these clemency grants, like the pardon of Sae Joon Park -- his clemency opens the path up for his safe return to his family. While we recognize how life-changing these clemency grants are for these six individuals, we also recognize that the governor's clemency powers remain underused and the clemency process itself remains unclear and opaque. We are also profoundly disappointed that the governor has *once again* not granted a single commutation -- a critical form of clemency for incarcerated New Yorkers languishing in deplorable conditions in state prisons as they serve excessive and unjust sentences.

IDP is proud to stand in solidarity with The People's Forum in light of their House Ways and Means subpoena: "This subpoena is an effort to chill speech and association, taking a page straight out of the authoritarian playbook. It is designed to silence not just The People’s Forum but to suppress our collective voice of dissent. But it will fail. We will never stop fighting for our communities, our democracy, and for justice."

Black and Latinx communities have been disproportionately targeted for ma*****na-related activity for *decades*. To make the harms worse, ICE and CBP use ma*****na arrests and convictions to justify immigration detention and deportation - even in states that have decriminalized ma*****na.

🌿 The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act introduced by Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Cory Booker, and Senator Ron Wyden recognizes that rescheduling ma*****na does not protect people from unfair policing or from abusive federal immigration agencies that can't be trusted to act with human dignity and decency. It is a milestone in the fight for immigrant justice!
