Steve Gunderson brings a rare blend of legislative insight, frontline bail experience, and community leadership to the stage. Currently serving as a Republican member of the Montana House of Representatives (District 1)—which includes Libby, Montana—Steve is a powerful advocate for justice, economic growth, and rural communities.
Before entering public office, Steve built a distinguished career in the bail industry, running Starlite Bail Bonds for over 35 years. His deep knowledge of the criminal justice system and his firsthand experience with bail reform make him a vital voice in today’s policy conversations affecting our industry.
Steve also proudly served eight years in the Montana and North Dakota Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving as a Combat Engineer Senior NCO. His military leadership has continued to inform his service-driven approach to business, public policy, and advocacy.
An accomplished entrepreneur, Steve previously owned a RadioShack franchise, a storage unit business, and co-founded the Montanore Positive Action Committee, an organization dedicated to local advocacy and responsible development in northwestern Montana.
A resident of Libby, Montana since 1979, Steve lives with his wife Cherie, and they are proud parents of two sons, Dustin and Jason.
