Bail: certainly not designed to be punitive, however, when “SECURED BAIL” is not allowed to be set because policy makers changed the laws, society suffers!
Judges in NYS render “judicial decisions” day in & day out about very important subjects. When the legislative branch of government usurps the judicial branch & removes its authority to evaluate cases & decide on custody status the consequences are staunch.
This article “should” require NYS to reevaluate their bail law changes, it likely won’t! The hope is that the failure of NYS policy enactment is the “shot heard around the world” to all other city’s & states considering these matters.
