Important voting information in light of the recent SCOTUS case.
Let me start by reassuring you: nothing has changed about how you vote in Connecticut.
States run elections. That's not my opinion. It's the Constitution.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled on part of a Trump executive order that tries to put the federal government in charge of who gets a mail ballot. The Court didn't say the plan is legal. It said a lower court stepped in too early. A separate, broader hold is still in place, and the Postal Service has said it won't enforce the new rule for this election unless that hold comes down too.
Connecticut and two dozen other states filed a new suit TODAY, to block the implementation plan recently released by the post office. No matter what you believe about the policy, it would be impossible for states to implement the new policy in accordance with state law, train election workers, and educate the electorate in the next 37 days before absentee ballots are available.
As Connecticut's Secretary of the State, I took an oath to defend the Constitution. That means defending our state's authority to run our own elections, safeguarding Connecticut voters' information, and protecting every eligible voter's right to cast a ballot.
I'm watching this overreach closely, and I'll keep challenging it every step of the way. Connecticut elections stay Connecticut's to run.
