This two-hour CLE with a reception to follow is going to address timely topics related to Artificial Intelligence.

AI and Ethics for Lawyers
Practical Advice/Ethics/Privilege Issues (Presented by Brian Harrell and Graham Ryan) In this session, presenters will provide an essential and practical guide to integrating generative AI into everyday legal workflows. The discussion will focus heavily on how traditional professional duties apply to this new frontier, specifically highlighting technological competence , confidentiality , and candor to the tribunal. Attendees will learn actionable best practices to protect their practice, including how to differentiate between high-risk "open" AI systems and secure "closed" systems to safeguard attorney-client privilege, the necessity of continuous "human-in-the-loop" verification, and effective prompt engineering techniques to maximize efficiency without compromising professional integrity. Presenters will also discuss specific AI tools and the impact of AI on litigation.

AI in the Courts
Sanctions/Deep Fakes/Evidence/Privilege (Panel Session- Chief Judge Wendy Vitter, Clerk of Court Lyle Cayce, Steve Herman, moderated by Kristen Amond) Featuring a collaborative panel discussion with members of the federal judiciary, this session offers an inside view into how courts are actively confronting the high-stakes challenges of an AI-driven legal landscape. The panel will explore the severe professional consequences of blind reliance on AI tools, dissecting recent cautionary tales where attorneys faced harsh sanctions for submitting "hallucinated" or fabricated case citations. Beyond drafting errors, the panel will tackle the complex evidentiary hurdles posed by generative AI, the judicial system’s approach to AI, examining the impact of deepfakes on trial integrity, how to assess the authenticity and reliability of AI-generated evidence under existing rules, and judicial expectations for candor and privilege protection in modern litigation. The panel will also explore substantive AI issues.

We will be hosting a reception following this CLE to allow participants and panelists to continue the conversation.

This CLE is free for NOFBA members. Nonmembers are welcome for a small fee.

Available in person and by ZOOM.
2 CLE Credits for Louisiana attorneys - 1 hour Ethics & 1 hour General.
2 CLE Credits for Mississippi attorneys - attorneys will be responsible for the $2.00/hour fee. Mississippi CLE credits are for in-person only.
