Louisiana Center for Children's Rights The Louisiana Center for Children's Rights fights to keep children out of the legal system so that they can thrive in their homes and communities.

When we show up for our kids, when we see them for who they are and not the mistakes they’ve made, they are able to see their own ability more clearly. When we see how their surroundings and circumstances shape them, we are able to help remedy the source of their behavior instead of just reprimanding the surface level symptoms.

Here at LCCR, we recognize the difference youth advocates like Kisha can make in the lives of our clients. Listen to the brilliant young lady in this video tell you in her own words.

“I believe in myself…I learned a lot of things with LCCR and they helped me mature into the 17-year-old I am today.”

Mature is an important word here, because you must remember children naturally behave as children and it is only with proper guidance that they are able to mature. Being a child becomes a crime when we expect children to act as mature adults would.

We won’t stop until the world becomes a place where all kids are supported to thrive in their communities and not locked away in cells.

Everyone at LCCR would like to give a HUGE thank you to all 182 amazing supporters who invested in us this past GiveNOLA Day. With our match and bonus prize earned, we raised a total of $52,517!!! More than double our initial $25,000 goal!

We rely on our community for this kind of support and you all came through big time yesterday. This money will help ensure robust, holistic support for the hundreds of kids who enter our doors each year in need of help exiting the justice system.

We are incredibly grateful 🧡

If there was ever a time you wanted to make a difference, today is the day!

Support our communities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge by investing in our children who live here, grow here, and sometimes make mistakes here. The gift you make to LCCR today helps us pick them back up to make sure they heal and thrive here, too.

Every gift counts! Even $20 is special, especially since this year marks 20 years our organization has been in service, helping thousands of children leave the justice system behind for good.

We thank you so much in advance 🧡💙

Our board member Miles Thomas shared the reason he supports LCCR at our celebratory event commemorating our organization’s 20th anniversary. It’s simple: This is important. These are our kids. And our team works day in and day out to protect each child who enters our doors.

As you encounter the many amazing organizations participating in GiveNOLA Day, please hear Miles’ words and consider the impact your donation will have when given to LCCR. Especially knowing that when you donate to us between now and May 5th, whatever amount you give will be TRIPLED. So, for instance, $50 becomes $150!!! 😲 or if you’re matching our 20 years of service, your $20 gift becomes $60!!

Any amount you’re able to invest with us will be an investment in justice for our children throughout New Orleans and Baton Rouge, ensuring they receive some of the best support during some of their most difficult moments.

Donate today at the link in our bio or visit www.givenola.org/lakidsrights 🧡💙

And if you’re one of our amazing supporters, whether you donate or not, please leave us a 🧡 or 💙 in the comments below!

Please join us in appreciating Trinity Episcopal Church New Orleans !!! They recently donated helpful items for the kids we work with, including things like books, hygiene products, board games, sports equipment, socks, snacks, and more! We especially loved the handwritten motivational cards. We thank you so much for your generosity and are incredibly grateful to you all.

Last Thursday, LCCR celebrated its 20th anniversary at our annual event! 🎉 Twenty years of helping thousands of children leave the justice system behind for good and thrive in their communities throughout New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We also honored local artist Journey Allen as this year’s Diamonique Whaley Champion of Justice Awardee, for her incredible work engaging incarcerated young people in healing through arts education.

You had to be there! We thank each of the more than 165 guests who joined us and are beyond grateful for the $135,000 raised! You are all part of our kids’ success 🧡💙

We don’t take reaching this milestone lightly, and we plan to continue fighting for our children for decades to come.

To our community, both seasoned allies and newcomers, we thank you for your unwavering support! And stay tuned, we’ll be sharing photos from the event soon! 📸

SB 201 threatens the U.S. Supreme court’s ban on giving life without parole to young people under 18 unless and only if they have been convicted of homicide. SB 201 would remove that requirement here in Louisiana, opening up the possibility for more of our young people to be sentenced to juvenile life without parole (JLWOP) for crimes that normally wouldn’t qualify.

We already know that harsh punishment doesn’t heal children or help communities. We already know that children grow and change as they mature into adults. Such a harsh sentence has strict limits for good reason, and our work has shown us time and time again how powerful second chances and holistic alternatives can be. LCCR opposes SB 201, and we ask that you do, too.

Do you agree or disagree? Tell us your thoughts!

We are excited to honor Journey Allen at our celebration event on April 2nd as our 2026 Diamonique Whaley Champion of Justice.

Journey celebrates the creativity of New Orleans’ youth through Spectrum Arts NOLA, the youth-led collective she helped found that embraces young people being “rooted in creativity, rising through community, and reimaging the future.”

We thank Journey dearly for helping incarcerated kids engage in healing through arts education. Journey has previously worked closely with kids incarcerated at New Orleans’ Juvenile Justice Intervention Center (JJIC)—including numerous LCCR clients. She led classes at JJIC that aimed to help kids discover the art of mindfulness and sacred mural making.

We are also happy to share a sneak peek at the amazing prizes being raffled off exclusively at this year's Celebration event (swipe to see!).

Win or lose, you'll be supporting LCCR's vital work in our community, helping kids impacted by the legal system get the supports and services needed to grow up healthy and leave the system behind for good. In this context, everyone wins!

So please join us this Thursday on April 2nd as we honor Journey Allen and celebrate 20 years of LCCR's work in the community.

Will YOU be there? RSVP at the link in our bio & let us know in the comments!
