France has become the first EU country to ban PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in cosmetics, personal care products, and certain textiles, effective January 1, 2026. The move reflects growing concern over the health risks linked to PFAS exposure , and is part of a broader effort to protect health and the environment from these persistent, toxic compounds.

France has banned the production and sale of cosmetics containing perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), so-called “forever chemicals” because of their persistence in the environment.
