Happy birthday, Mr. Brooks! I (Dewey Scandurro) met Mr. Lawrence at a neighborhood party a few years ago, when he was a sprightly 109 years old. He told me his age, and I looked at his daughter, who's a friend of mine, and she nodded that it was true. He told me the year of his birth and waited while I did the math.
The nation's oldest living World War II veteran now has another year under his belt.
