What do you do if you catch them filming?
If you spot a private investigator recording you, don’t panic. You can address them (if you want to).

You have every right to walk up and ask who they are and why they are filming you. Usually, once they’re caught, they’ll pack up and leave because their footage is no longer a secret. Just keep it calm, keep it polite, and don’t give them any “angry” footage to use against you!

Is the insurance company watching you? The answer is frequently YES.

If you have an injury claim, they can film you in public places or walking into the grocery store to try and prove you aren’t hurt.

The moment you file an injury claim, you might as well be the star of a reality TV show, because insurance companies can, and will, put you under surveillance for years, hoping to catch you “acting healthy” just to devalue your case.

However, they have to play by the rules. There are limits on what those investigators can do, and I know those limits inside and out.

Don’t let them catch you off guard or intimidate you into a low settlement.

Remember the 90s? Back then, if it wasn’t caught on a bulky shoulder-camcorder, it basically didn’t happen. In 2026, those days are long gone. We are living in an era of surveillance cameras everywhere.

Under Louisiana law, video footage can be a powerful witness. If the footage is properly authenticated, it can be used in court as evidence.
