Once again, it is my great pleasure to teach two adult education courses for Rockland County BOCES.

On April 30, 2025, Estate Planning: This course will explain different Estate Planning tools including: Wills, Trusts, Healthcare Proxies, Advanced Medical Directives, and Powers of Attorney. We will go the details of how and when to use various documents and how to avoid Probate. Handouts are provided.

On May, 2025, Elder Law and Special Needs Planning: This course is designed for seniors and adults with special needs and those who are concerned with their welfare. Topics include: asset protection planning, Medicaid planning and gifting strategies including life estates, Transfer on Death Deeds, and life and long-term care insurance. Special attention will be given to the differences in planning for a couple versus a single person. Handouts are provided.

It is that time of year again. I will be giving two Adult Education Courses at BOCES Nyack Campus. Estate Planning will be on May 1, 2024 from 6:30 to 9:30. Elder Law and Special Needs Planning will be on May 8, 2024 from 6:30 to 9:30. They are independent classes but it is best to take both. Looking forward to seeing you there.

FEMA to Help Cover Funeral Costs of COVID-19 Victims

As of March 22, 2021, there have been 555,324 Covid-19 deaths in the United States and Territories.

This has been an overwhelming emotional and financial burden on families who have lost a loved one to Covid-19.

With the recent passage of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been allotted $2 billion to reimburse families up to $7,000 for funeral expenses of COVID-19 victims incurred after January of 2020.

FEMA is expecting to roll out the application process in April, 2021.

Special Needs Law in NYS

There are many Federal, State, and local programs and services available for children and adults with special needs.
