The Brooks Bridge work zone extends from the roadway to the waterway surrrounding the new bridge. As a reminder to local and visiting boaters, waterway work zone safety starts with you.

Mariners are reminded that you may experience intermittent nighttime closures of the navigational channel beneath Brooks Bridge Sunday through Thursday, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The channel will remain open at all other times for navigation, including Friday and Saturday nights.

Mariners can find official closure notices and navigational restrictions on the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center website www.navcen.uscg.gov, and should monitor VHF-FM Channel 13 or 16 for the most current information while on the water.

The $171 million Brooks Bridge replacement project includes constructing two new, parallel bridge structures that will increase capacity to six travel lanes from the current four-lane bridge that opened in 1966.

OVERVIEW/WHAT'S NEW: Tropical Depression Two, located about 105 miles south of Panama City Florida, has been drifting slowly northwestward and is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm tonight or early Tuesday morning. The system is forecast to move across the offshore waters of Alabama and the western Florida panhandle from Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning before continuing off to the west. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for coastal Alabama and the coast of the western Florida panhandle, including coastal waters out 20 nm. A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for the coastal waters from 20-60 nm. A Storm Surge Watch is now in effect for coastal Alabama. A High Surf Warning comes into effect from Tuesday afternoon into the early evening. A High Risk of rip currents starts tonight.

KEY MESSAGES:

Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the Alabama and western Florida panhandle coast and adjacent coastal waters out 20 nm. Tropical Storm Warning now in effect for the coastal waters from 20-60 nm offshore.
Storm Surge Watch now in effect for coastal Alabama for storm surge potentially up to 2-4 feet. Storm surge of 1-2 feet is possible along the western Florida panhandle coast.
High risk of life-threatening rip currents in effect. High Surf Warning comes into effect Tuesday afternoon into early evening for surf up to around 10 feet,
Heavy rain and tropical storm force winds will be possible in outer rainbands, mainly near the coast based on the latest track.
Any shift in the track further north could bring slightly greater impacts.


No great organization or movement occurred today as TD2 is sandwiched between two high pressure ridges. As the Ridge over the CONUS looks to play the dominant role, and high pressure spins clockwise in the Norther hemisphere, the system is still forecast to turn WNW, then W with little change to the forecast track or reasoning. We’ll still see some brief periods of heavy rain and gusty winds, but the majority of the teeth on this system will remain offshore due to some solid wind shear resulting in impact displacement to the South and West. We never turn our backs on these systems and continue to monitor.
