The IRS has announced tax relief that may give you more time to file and pay your federal taxes — with no penalty.

Key details:
• New deadline: May 22, 2026
• Covers 23 Tennessee counties including Davidson, Shelby, Rutherford, Williamson, and Wilson
• Applies to most individual and business federal tax returns
• Penalties on payroll deposits due Jan. 22–Feb. 6 are waived if paid by Feb. 6

If you live in a covered county, the IRS should apply this relief automatically. If you're outside the covered area but your records are in one of these counties, call IRS Special Services at 866-562-5227.
