In Iceland, there's a beautiful Christmas Eve tradition called Jólabókaflóð, which literally means "Christmas Book Flood."

Every year, a flood of new books is published in the months leading up to Christmas, and Icelanders exchange them as gifts on December 24th!

Once the presents are unwrapped, families and friends curl up together with hot chocolate or chocolate treats and spend the rest of the night reading their new books by firelight—making it one of the coziest winter traditions you can imagine.

This custom grew out of Iceland's long literary culture and a time when book paper was easier to obtain than other imported goods during World War II. Today, it's a beloved way to celebrate stories, warmth, and holiday togetherness.

Wouldn't this make the perfect Christmas Eve tradition everywhere? 🎄

💛 Bridge the Gap Food Drive 💛 With the government shutdown, some families and residents are struggling with delayed paychecks and paused benefits. Waterford Youth & Family Services is collecting food and grocery gift cards to help our neighbors in need. Donations can be dropped off at the Waterford Town Hall on Saturday, November 1st from 10am to 1pm. Together, we can bridge the gap with kindness and care. ❤️
