Comings and goings…this is the song of the summer ‘26 (according to me): Guns N’ Roses’ Paradise City.
Criteria:
1) Did I listen to Paradise City this summer in my truck? Yes.
2) Did my kids tell me to turn it off? Again, yes.
3) Did I make them listen to it anyway because I know what’s good for them, and (this was checkmate) I paid for the truck? Correct.
They say parenting comes down to little choices - whispers in the ear at a split in the road. For my kids, that whisper was Axl Rose screaming “Oh, won’t you please take me home!”
They’re grateful.
And if you’ve had a car accident on Hwy 501, call Battle at 843-839-5310.

Comings and goings…these are 3 sleeper stock picks based on watching my kids eat stuff.
1) Goldfish crackers (parent co. Cambell’s Company; ticker CPB) - you’ve probably seen goldfish for sale in the grocery store. And had a pang of nostalgia. “Aw, I’m glad they still sell those.” Yea. Most kids in America would have starved if these didn’t exist. Shove’em in.
2) Capri Sun (privately owned by Swiss dude but distributor Kraft Heinz; ticker KHC) - if I was in their R&D, these never would have left the monkey lab. Stabbing the “juice pouch” with a straw? So much pain; so much violence. But kids suck these down like a hobo in a gin distillery. They never quit asking for more. Never. Load up.
3) Gogo Squeeze apple sauce (owned by private French company but distributor Sysco Corp.; ticker SYY) - responsible for any vitamin in a kids’ body. But don’t tell them. They squeeze these like it owes them money. Diversify your pantry here.
Happy picking, friends!

Comings and goings…this is George Vanderbilt’s 1890’s home gym at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.
When change is constant, there are markers that remain the same. A statue, a favorite movie, a favorite book. Little river eddys where you can lay up and take stock.
I’ve been to Biltmore I don’t know how many times. Maybe every 6-8 years. As a kid, a teenager, wandering adult, and now parent.
And George Vanderbilt’s lonely home gym remains the same.
The perspective changes. When I was a kid, I wanted to jump the velvet rope and try out the rower. As a parent, I just hoped my kids behaved, and “Don't let me get gouged at the horse stable restaurant.”
Little moments of calm and then we’re back at it.

Comings and goings…this is Sonny Crockett interrogation techniques - as seen in Miami Vice Season 2, Episode 11 “Back in the World.” Don Johnson directed this episode so round housing this guy (stuntman Gary Cox) was a personal choice. God bless him. His girlfriend is famous 80’s model Iman.
I almost spit out my drink watching this scene. Well, I rewound it and recorded it with my phone. Then texted it to some people. It was a busy Sunday afternoon.
Nobody keeps quiet around Metro-Dade Detective Crockett. Unless you’re bleeding inside your chest.

Comings and goings…this is Nicole Pridgen, owner and operator of Affordable Cuts in Atlantic Beach, SC.
Originally from Loris, the home of chicken bog, Nicole has done it all - gas station attendant (“Better than you’d think - I loved talking to the people”), bartender (“It’s okay”), cook (“I’m a great cook!), and now hair stylist.
Her advice: “Make sure you love what you do. And you can pay your bills.”
“Me, I love doing hair. So here I am.”
Her expanded location opens in a month or two. Reach her at 843-491-3136 for that fresh fade.

Comings and goings…this is Larry Lucas, tour guide at the Historic Camden Foundation and retired from active duty Air Force after 23 years.
Larry, charming man, was in charge of air crew life saving systems - parachutes, night vision goggles (“NVG’s” for cool people), and stuff like that at Shaw Air Force Base attached to 9 AFCENT (U.S. Central Command).
“Now I enjoy teaching, motivating, and mentoring people about the rich history of SC, and how it effects us today.”
“I focus on the contributions of African Americans, Native Americans, and women during that time.”
Thank you for showing us around and thank you for your service!

Comings and goings…this is Jacob Bendt working a brick forge at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. On this day he was making iron pickets for a fence.
Jacob is studying at the American College of the Building Arts (“ACBA”) in Charleston, SC.
“I’ve been doing blacksmithing for 7 years. I love it. There’s nobody else to do it. It can’t be replaced by AI, and it’s a lot of freedom.”
Good point.
“I love specialty metals - non-ferrous (no iron) metals like copper and bronze. I feel like I’m making something, and I’m not behind a desk.”
I hear that. Good luck to you, kind sir.
